2 CORINTHIANS CHAPTER 4

Latin VulgateGreek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
2 Corinthians 4:1 Ideo habentes administrationem, juxta quod misericordiam consecuti sumus, non deficimus, 2 Corinthians 4:1 διὰ τοῦτο ἔχοντες τὴν διακονίαν ταύτην καθὼς ἠλεήθημεν οὐκ ἐκκακοῦμεν 2 Corinthians 4:1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
4:2 sed abdicamus occulta dedecoris, non ambulantes in astutia, neque adulterantes verbum Dei, sed in manifestatione veritatis commendantes nosmetipsos ad omnem conscientiam hominum coram Deo. 4:2 ἀλλ᾽ ἀπειπάμεθα τὰ κρυπτὰ τῆς αἰσχύνης μὴ περιπατοῦντες ἐν πανουργίᾳ μηδὲ δολοῦντες τὸν λόγον τοῦ θεοῦ ἀλλὰ τῇ φανερώσει τῆς ἀληθείας συνιστώντες ἑαυτοὺς πρὸς πᾶσαν συνείδησιν ἀνθρώπων ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ 4:2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
4:3 Quod si etiam opertum est Evangelium nostrum, in iis, qui pereunt, est opertum: 4:3 εἰ δὲ καὶ ἔστιν κεκαλυμμένον τὸ εὐαγγέλιον ἡμῶν ἐν τοῖς ἀπολλυμένοις ἐστὶν κεκαλυμμένον 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4:4 in quibus Deus hujus sæculi excæcavit mentes infidelium, ut non fulgeat illis illuminatio Evangelii gloriæ Christi, qui est imago Dei. 4:4 ἐν οἷς ὁ θεὸς τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου ἐτύφλωσεν τὰ νοήματα τῶν ἀπίστων εἰς τὸ μὴ αὐγάσαι αὐτοῖς τὸν φωτισμὸν τοῦ εὐαγγελίου τῆς δόξης τοῦ χριστοῦ ὅς ἐστιν εἰκὼν τοῦ θεοῦ 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
4:5 Non enim nosmetipsos prædicamus, sed Jesum Christum Dominum nostrum: nos autem servos vestros per Jesum: 4:5 οὐ γὰρ ἑαυτοὺς κηρύσσομεν ἀλλὰ χριστὸν ἰησοῦν κύριον ἑαυτοὺς δὲ δούλους ὑμῶν διὰ ἰησοῦν 4:5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
4:6 quoniam Deus, qui dixit de tenebris lucem splendescere, ipse illuxit in cordibus nostris ad illuminationem scientiæ claritatis Dei, in facie Christi Jesu. 4:6 ὅτι ὁ θεὸς ὁ εἰπών ἐκ σκότους φῶς λάμψαι ὃς ἔλαμψεν ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ἡμῶν πρὸς φωτισμὸν τῆς γνώσεως τῆς δόξης τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν προσώπῳ ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give he light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
4:7 Habemus autem thesaurum istum in vasis fictilibus: ut sublimitas sit virtutis Dei, et non ex nobis. 4:7 ἕχομεν δὲ τὸν θησαυρὸν τοῦτον ἐν ὀστρακίνοις σκεύεσιν ἵνα ἡ ὑπερβολὴ τῆς δυνάμεως ᾖ τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ μὴ ἐξ ἡμῶν 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
4:8 In omnibus tribulationem patimur, sed non angustiamur: aporiamur, sed non destituimur: 4:8 ἐν παντὶ θλιβόμενοι ἀλλ᾽ οὐ στενοχωρούμενοι ἀπορούμενοι ἀλλ᾽ οὐκ ἐξαπορούμενοι 4:8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
4:9 persecutionem patimur, sed non derelinquimur: dejicimur, sed non perimus: 4:9 διωκόμενοι ἀλλ᾽ οὐκ ἐγκαταλειπόμενοι καταβαλλόμενοι ἀλλ᾽ οὐκ ἀπολλύμενοι 4:9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
2 Corinthians 4:10 semper mortificationem Jesu in corpore nostro circumferentes, ut et vita Jesu manifestetur in corporibus nostris. 2 Corinthians 4:10 πάντοτε τὴν νέκρωσιν τοῦ κυρίου ἰησοῦ ἐν τῷ σώματι περιφέροντες ἵνα καὶ ἡ ζωὴ τοῦ ἰησοῦ ἐν τῷ σώματι ἡμῶν φανερωθῇ 2 Corinthians 4:10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
4:11 Semper enim nos, qui vivimus, in mortem tradimur propter Jesum: ut et vita Jesu manifestetur in carne nostra mortali. 4:11 ἀεὶ γὰρ ἡμεῖς οἱ ζῶντες εἰς θάνατον παραδιδόμεθα διὰ ἰησοῦν ἵνα καὶ ἡ ζωὴ τοῦ ἰησοῦ φανερωθῇ ἐν τῇ θνητῇ σαρκὶ ἡμῶν 4:11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
4:12 Ergo mors in nobis operatur, vita autem in vobis. 4:12 ὥστε ὁ μὲν θάνατος ἐν ἡμῖν ἐνεργεῖται ἡ δὲ ζωὴ ἐν ὑμῖν 4:12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you.
4:13 Habentes autem eumdem spiritum fidei, sicut scriptum est: Credidi, propter quod locutus sum: et nos credimus, propter quod et loquimur: 4:13 ἔχοντες δὲ τὸ αὐτὸ πνεῦμα τῆς πίστεως κατὰ τὸ γεγραμμένον ἐπίστευσα διὸ ἐλάλησα καὶ ἡμεῖς πιστεύομεν διὸ καὶ λαλοῦμεν 4:13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
4:14 scientes quoniam qui suscitavit Jesum, et nos cum Jesu suscitabit, et constituet vobiscum. 4:14 εἰδότες ὅτι ὁ ἐγείρας τὸν κύριον ἰησοῦν καὶ ἡμᾶς διὰ ἰησοῦ ἐγερεῖ καὶ παραστήσει σὺν ὑμῖν 4:14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
4:15 Omnia enim propter vos: ut gratia abundans, per multos in gratiarum actione, abundet in gloriam Dei. 4:15 τὰ γὰρ πάντα δι᾽ ὑμᾶς ἵνα ἡ χάρις πλεονάσασα διὰ τῶν πλειόνων τὴν εὐχαριστίαν περισσεύσῃ εἰς τὴν δόξαν τοῦ θεοῦ 4:15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
4:16 Propter quod non deficimus: sed licet is, qui foris est, noster homo corrumpatur, tamen is, qui intus est, renovatur de die in diem. 4:16 διὸ οὐκ ἐκκακοῦμεν, ἀλλ᾽ εἰ καὶ ὁ ἔξω ἡμῶν ἄνθρωπος διαφθείρεται ἀλλ᾽ ὁ ἔσωθεν ἀνακαινοῦται ἡμέρᾳ καὶ ἡμέρᾳ 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
4:17 Id enim, quod in præsenti est momentaneum et leve tribulationis nostræ, supra modum in sublimitate æternum gloriæ pondus operatur in nobis, 4:17 τὸ γὰρ παραυτίκα ἐλαφρὸν τῆς θλίψεως ἡμῶν καθ᾽ ὑπερβολὴν εἰς ὑπερβολὴν αἰώνιον βάρος δόξης κατεργάζεται ἡμῖν 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
4:18 non contemplantibus nobis quæ videntur, sed quæ non videntur. Quæ enim videntur, temporalia sunt: quæ autem non videntur, æterna sunt. 4:18 μὴ σκοπούντων ἡμῶν τὰ βλεπόμενα ἀλλὰ τὰ μὴ βλεπόμενα τὰ γὰρ βλεπόμενα πρόσκαιρα τὰ δὲ μὴ βλεπόμενα αἰώνια 4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
