Luke Chapter 1

Greek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
Luke 1:1 ἐπειδήπερ πολλοὶ ἐπεχείρησαν ἀνατάξασθαι διήγησιν περὶ τῶν πεπληροφορημένων ἐν ἡμῖν πραγμάτων Luke 1:1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
1:2 καθὼς παρέδοσαν ἡμῖν οἱ ἀπ᾽ ἀρχῆς αὐτόπται καὶ ὑπηρέται γενόμενοι τοῦ λόγου 1:2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
1:3 ἔδοξεν κἀμοὶ παρηκολουθηκότι ἄνωθεν πᾶσιν ἀκριβῶς καθεξῆς σοι γράψαι κράτιστε φεόφιλε 1:3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
1:4 ἵνα ἐπιγνῷς περὶ ὧν κατηχήθης λόγων τὴν ἀσφάλειαν 1:4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
1:5 ἐγένετο ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἡρῴδου τοῦ βασιλέως τῆς ἰουδαίας ἱερεύς τις ὀνόματι ξαχαρίας ἐξ ἐφημερίας ἀβιά καὶ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῶν θυγατέρων ἀαρών καὶ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῆς ἐλισάβετ 1:5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
1:6 ἦσαν δὲ δίκαιοι ἀμφότεροι ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ πορευόμενοι ἐν πάσαις ταῖς ἐντολαῖς καὶ δικαιώμασιν τοῦ κυρίου ἄμεμπτοι 1:6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
1:7 καὶ οὐκ ἦν αὐτοῖς τέκνον καθότι ἡ ἐλισάβετ ἦν στεῖρα καὶ ἀμφότεροι προβεβηκότες ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις αὐτῶν ἦσαν 1:7 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.
1:8 ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ ἱερατεύειν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ τάξει τῆς ἐφημερίας αὐτοῦ ἔναντι τοῦ θεοῦ 1:8 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest's office before God in the order of his course,
1:9 κατὰ τὸ ἔθος τῆς ἱερατείας ἔλαχεν τοῦ θυμιᾶσαι εἰσελθὼν εἰς τὸν ναὸν τοῦ κυρίου 1:9 According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
Luke 1:10 καὶ πᾶν τὸ πλῆθος τοῦ λαοῦ ἦν προσευχόμενον ἔξω τῇ ὥρᾳ τοῦ θυμιάματος Luke 1:10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.
1:11 ὤφθη δὲ αὐτῷ ἄγγελος κυρίου ἑστὼς ἐκ δεξιῶν τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου τοῦ θυμιάματος 1:11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
1:12 καὶ ἐταράχθη ξαχαρίας ἰδών καὶ φόβος ἐπέπεσεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν 1:12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
1:13 εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ ἄγγελος μὴ φοβοῦ ξαχαρία διότι εἰσηκούσθη ἡ δέησίς σου καὶ ἡ γυνή σου ἐλισάβετ γεννήσει υἱόν σοι καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἰωάννην 1:13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
1:14 καὶ ἔσται χαρά σοι καὶ ἀγαλλίασις καὶ πολλοὶ ἐπὶ τῇ γεννήσει αὐτοῦ χαρήσονται 1:14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
1:15 ἔσται γὰρ μέγας ἐνώπιον τοῦ κυρίου καὶ οἶνον καὶ σίκερα οὐ μὴ πίῃ καὶ πνεύματος ἁγίου πλησθήσεται ἔτι ἐκ κοιλίας μητρὸς αὐτοῦ 1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
1:16 καὶ πολλοὺς τῶν υἱῶν ἰσραὴλ ἐπιστρέψει ἐπὶ κύριον τὸν θεὸν αὐτῶν 1:16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
1:17 καὶ αὐτὸς προελεύσεται ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ ἐν πνεύματι καὶ δυνάμει ἠλίου ἐπιστρέψαι καρδίας πατέρων ἐπὶ τέκνα καὶ ἀπειθεῖς ἐν φρονήσει δικαίων ἑτοιμάσαι κυρίῳ λαὸν κατεσκευασμένον 1:17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
1:18 καὶ εἶπεν ξαχαρίας πρὸς τὸν ἄγγελον κατὰ τί γνώσομαι τοῦτο ἐγὼ γάρ εἰμι πρεσβύτης καὶ ἡ γυνή μου προβεβηκυῖα ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις αὐτῆς 1:18 And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
1:19 καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ ἄγγελος εἶπεν αὐτῷ ἐγώ εἰμι γαβριὴλ ὁ παρεστηκὼς ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ἀπεστάλην λαλῆσαι πρὸς σὲ καὶ εὐαγγελίσασθαί σοι ταῦτα 1:19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
Luke 1:20 καὶ ἰδού, ἔσῃ σιωπῶν καὶ μὴ δυνάμενος λαλῆσαι ἄχρι ἡς ἡμέρας γένηται ταῦτα ἀνθ ὧν οὐκ ἐπίστευσας τοῖς λόγοις μου οἵτινες πληρωθήσονται εἰς τὸν καιρὸν αὐτῶν Luke 1:20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
1:21 καὶ ἦν ὁ λαὸς προσδοκῶν τὸν ξαχαρίαν καὶ ἐθαύμαζον ἐν τῷ χρονίζειν αὐτόν ἐν τῷ ναῷ 1:21 And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.
1:22 ἐξελθὼν δὲ οὐκ ἠδύνατο λαλῆσαι αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐπέγνωσαν ὅτι ὀπτασίαν ἑώρακεν ἐν τῷ ναῷ καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν διανεύων αὐτοῖς καὶ διέμενεν κωφός 1:22 And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.
1:23 καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἐπλήσθησαν αἱ ἡμέραι τῆς λειτουργίας αὐτοῦ ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ 1:23 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
1:24 μετὰ δὲ ταύτας τὰς ἡμέρας συνέλαβεν ἐλισάβετ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ καὶ περιέκρυβεν ἑαυτὴν μῆνας πέντε λέγουσα 1:24 And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
1:25 ὅτι οὕτως μοι πεποίηκεν ὁ κύριος ἐν ἡμέραις αἷς ἐπεῖδεν ἀφελεῖν τὸ ὄνειδός μου ἐν ἀνθρώποις 1:25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.
1:26 ἐν δὲ τῷ μηνὶ τῷ ἕκτῳ ἀπεστάλη ὁ ἄγγελος γαβριὴλ ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ εἰς πόλιν τῆς γαλιλαίας ᾗ ὄνομα ναζαρὲτ 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
1:27 πρὸς παρθένον μεμνηστευμένην ἀνδρὶ ᾧ ὄνομα ἰωσὴφ ἐξ οἴκου δαβίδ καὶ τὸ ὄνομα τῆς παρθένου μαριάμ 1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
1:28 καὶ εἰσελθὼν ὁ ἄγγελος πρὸς αὐτὴν εἶπεν χαῖρε κεχαριτωμένη ὁ κύριος μετὰ σοῦ εὐλογημένη σὺ ἐν γυναιξίν 1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
1:29 ἡ δὲ ἰδοῦσα διεταράχθη ἐπὶ τῷ λόγῳ αὐτοῦ, καὶ διελογίζετο ποταπὸς εἴη ὁ ἀσπασμὸς οὗτος 1:29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
Luke 1:30 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ ἄγγελος αὐτῇ μὴ φοβοῦ μαριάμ εὗρες γὰρ χάριν παρὰ τῷ θεῷ Luke 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
1:31 καὶ ἰδού, συλλήψῃ ἐν γαστρὶ καὶ τέξῃ υἱόν καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἰησοῦν 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
1:32 οὗτος ἔσται μέγας καὶ υἱὸς ὑψίστου κληθήσεται καὶ δώσει αὐτῷ κύριος ὁ θεὸς τὸν θρόνον δαβὶδ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ 1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
1:33 καὶ βασιλεύσει ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον ἰακὼβ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας καὶ τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἔσται τέλος 1:33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
1:34 εἶπεν δὲ μαριὰμ πρὸς τὸν ἄγγελον πῶς ἔσται τοῦτο ἐπεὶ ἄνδρα οὐ γινώσκω 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
1:35 καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ ἄγγελος εἶπεν αὐτῇ πνεῦμα ἅγιον ἐπελεύσεται ἐπὶ σέ καὶ δύναμις ὑψίστου ἐπισκιάσει σοι διὸ καὶ τὸ γεννώμενον ἅγιον κληθήσεται υἱὸς θεοῦ 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
1:36 καὶ ἰδού, ἐλισάβετ ἡ συγγενής σου καὶ αὐτὴ συνείληφυῖα υἱὸν ἐν γήρᾳ αὐτῆς καὶ οὗτος μὴν ἕκτος ἐστὶν αὐτῇ τῇ καλουμένῃ στείρᾳ 1:36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
1:37 ὅτι οὐκ ἀδυνατήσει παρὰ τῷ θεῷ πᾶν ῥῆμα 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
1:38 εἶπεν δὲ μαριάμ ἰδού, ἡ δούλη κυρίου γένοιτό μοι κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμά σου καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἀπ᾽ αὐτῆς ὁ ἄγγελος 1:38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
1:39 ἀναστᾶσα δὲ μαριὰμ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ταύταις ἐπορεύθη εἰς τὴν ὀρεινὴν μετὰ σπουδῆς εἰς πόλιν ἰούδα 1:39 And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
Luke 1:40 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον ξαχαρίου καὶ ἠσπάσατο τὴν ἐλισάβετ Luke 1:40 And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
1:41 καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤκουσεν ἡ ἐλισάβετ τὸν ἀσπασμὸν τῆς μαρίας ἐσκίρτησεν τὸ βρέφος ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ αὐτῆς καὶ ἐπλήσθη πνεύματος ἁγίου ἡ ἐλισάβετ 1:41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
1:42 καὶ ἀνεφώνησεν φωνῇ μεγάλῃ καὶ εἶπεν εὐλογημένη σὺ ἐν γυναιξίν καὶ εὐλογημένος ὁ καρπὸς τῆς κοιλίας σου 1:42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
1:43 καὶ πόθεν μοι τοῦτο ἵνα ἔλθῃ ἡ μήτηρ τοῦ κυρίου μου πρὸς μέ 1:43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
1:44 ἰδού, γὰρ ὡς ἐγένετο ἡ φωνὴ τοῦ ἀσπασμοῦ σου εἰς τὰ ὦτά μου ἐσκίρτησεν ἐν ἀγαλλιάσει τὸ βρέφος ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ μου 1:44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
1:45 καὶ μακαρία ἡ πιστεύσασα ὅτι ἔσται τελείωσις τοῖς λελαλημένοις αὐτῇ παρὰ κυρίου 1:45 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
1:46 καὶ εἶπεν μαριάμ μεγαλύνει ἥ ψυχή μου τόν κύριόν 1:46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
1:47 καὶ ἠγαλλίασεν τὸ πνεῦμά μου ἐπὶ τῷ θεῷ τῷ σωτῆρί μου 1:47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
1:48 ὅτι ἐπέβλεψεν ἐπὶ τὴν ταπείνωσιν τῆς δούλης αὐτοῦ ἰδού, γὰρ ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν μακαριοῦσίν με πᾶσαι αἱ γενεαί 1:48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
1:49 ὅτι ἐποίησέν μοι μεγάλεῖα ὁ δυνατός καὶ ἅγιον τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ 1:49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
Luke 1:50 καὶ τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ εἰς γενεὰς γενεῶν τοῖς φοβουμένοις αὐτόν Luke 1:50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
1:51 ἐποίησεν κράτος ἐν βραχίονι αὐτοῦ διεσκόρπισεν ὑπερηφάνους διανοίᾳ καρδίας αὐτῶν 1:51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
1:52 καθεῖλεν δυνάστας ἀπὸ θρόνων καὶ ὕψωσεν ταπεινούς 1:52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
1:53 πεινῶντας ἐνέπλησεν ἀγαθῶν καὶ πλουτοῦντας ἐξαπέστειλεν κενούς 1:53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
1:54 ἀντελάβετο ἰσραὴλ παιδὸς αὐτοῦ μνησθῆναι ἐλέους 1:54 He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
1:55 καθὼς ἐλάλησεν πρὸς τοὺς πατέρας ἡμῶν τῷ ἀβραὰμ καὶ τῷ σπέρματι αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα 1:55 As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
1:56 ἕμεινεν δὲ μαριὰμ σὺν αὐτῇ ὡσεὶ μῆνας τρεῖς καὶ ὑπέστρεψεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτῆς 1:56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
1:57 τῇ δὲ ἐλισάβετ ἐπλήσθη ὁ χρόνος τοῦ τεκεῖν αὐτήν καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱόν 1:57 Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
1:58 καὶ ἤκουσαν οἱ περίοικοι καὶ οἱ συγγενεῖς αὐτῆς ὅτι ἐμεγάλυνεν κύριος τὸ ἔλεος αὐτοῦ μετ᾽ αὐτῆς καὶ συνέχαιρον αὐτῇ 1:58 And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
1:59 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῇ ὀγδόῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἦλθον περιτεμεῖν τὸ παιδίον καὶ ἐκάλουν αὐτὸ ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ξαχαρίαν 1:59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
Luke 1:60 καὶ ἀποκριθεῖσα ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ εἶπεν οὐχί ἀλλὰ κληθήσεται ἰωάννης Luke 1:60 And his mother answered and said, Not so ; but he shall be called John.
1:61 καὶ εἶπον πρὸς αὐτὴν ὅτι οὐδείς ἐστιν ἐν τῇ συγγενεία σου ὃς καλεῖται τῷ ὀνόματι τούτῳ 1:61 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
1:62 ἐνένευον δὲ τῷ πατρὶ αὐτοῦ τὸ τί ἂν θέλοι καλεῖσθαι αὐτόν 1:62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
1:63 καὶ αἰτήσας πινακίδιον ἔγραψεν λέγων, ἰωάννης ἐστὶν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐθαύμασαν πάντες 1:63 And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.
1:64 ἀνεῴχθη δὲ τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ παραχρῆμα καὶ ἡ γλῶσσα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐλάλει εὐλογῶν τὸν θεόν 1:64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.
1:65 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐπὶ πάντας φόβος τοὺς περιοικοῦντας αὐτούς καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ὀρεινῇ τῆς ἰουδαίας διελαλεῖτο πάντα τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα 1:65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.
1:66 καὶ ἔθεντο πάντες οἱ ἀκούσαντες ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτῶν λέγοντες τί ἄρα τὸ παιδίον τοῦτο ἔσται καὶ χεὶρ κυρίου ἦν μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ 1:66 And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.
1:67 καὶ ξαχαρίας ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ ἐπλήσθη πνεύματος ἁγίου καὶ προεφήτευσεν λέγων 1:67 And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
1:68 εὐλογητὸς κύριος ὁ θεὸς τοῦ ἰσραήλ ὅτι ἐπεσκέψατο καὶ ἐποίησεν λύτρωσιν τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ 1:68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
1:69 καὶ ἤγειρεν κέρας σωτηρίας ἡμῖν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ δαβὶδ τοῦ παιδὸς αὐτοῦ 1:69 And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;
Luke 1:70 καθὼς ἐλάλησεν διὰ στόματος τῶν ἁγίων τῶν ἀπ᾽ αἰῶνος προφητῶν αὐτοῦ Luke 1:70 As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
1:71 σωτηρίαν ἐξ ἐχθρῶν ἡμῶν καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς πάντων τῶν μισούντων ἡμᾶς 1:71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
1:72 ποιῆσαι ἔλεος μετὰ τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν καὶ μνησθῆναι διαθήκης ἁγίας αὐτοῦ 1:72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;
1:73 ὅρκον ὃν ὤμοσεν πρὸς ἀβραὰμ τὸν πατέρα ἡμῶν 1:73 The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,
1:74 τοῦ δοῦναί ἡμῖν ἀφόβως ἐκ χειρὸς τῶν ἐχθρῶν ἡμῶν ῥυσθέντας λατρεύειν αὐτῷ 1:74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
1:75 ἐν ὁσιότητι καὶ δικαιοσύνῃ ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τὴς ζωῆς ἡμῶν 1:75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
1:76 καὶ σὺ παιδίον προφήτης ὑψίστου κληθήσῃ προπορεύσῃ γὰρ πρὸ προσώπου κυρίου ἑτοιμάσαι ὁδοὺς αὐτοῦ 1:76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
1:77 τοῦ δοῦναι γνῶσιν σωτηρίας τῷ λαῷ αὐτοῦ ἐν ἀφέσει ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτῶν 1:77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
1:78 διὰ σπλάγχνα ἐλέους θεοῦ ἡμῶν ἐν οἷς ἐπεσκέψατο ἡμᾶς ἀνατολὴ ἐξ ὕψους 1:78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
1:79 ἐπιφᾶναι τοῖς ἐν σκότει καὶ σκιᾷ θανάτου καθημένοις τοῦ κατευθῦναι τοὺς πόδας ἡμῶν εἰς ὁδὸν εἰρήνης 1:79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Luke 1:80 τὸ δὲ παιδίον ηὔξανεν καὶ ἐκραταιοῦτο πνεύματι καὶ ἦν ἐν ταῖς ἐρήμοις ἕως ἡμέρας ἀναδείξεως αὐτοῦ πρὸς τὸν ἰσραήλ Luke 1:80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.
