LUKE CHAPTER 24

Latin VulgateGreek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
Luke 24:1 Una autem sabbati valde diluculo venerunt ad monumentum, portantes quæ paraverant aromata: Luke 24:1 τῇ δὲ μιᾷ τῶν σαββάτων ὄρθρου βαθέος ἦλθον ἐπὶ τὸ μνῆμα φέρουσαι ἃ ἡτοίμασαν ἀρώματα καί τινές σύν αὐταῖς Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
24:2 et invenerunt lapidem revolutum a monumento. 24:2 εὗρον δὲ τὸν λίθον ἀποκεκυλισμένον ἀπὸ τοῦ μνημείου 24:2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
24:3 Et ingressæ non invenerunt corpus Domini Jesu. 24:3 καὶ εἰσελθοῦσαι οὐχ εὗρον τὸ σῶμα τοῦ κυρίου ἰησοῦ 24:3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
24:4 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ διαπορεῖσθαι αὐτὰς περὶ τούτου καὶ ἰδού, δύο ἄνδρες ἐπέστησαν αὐταῖς ἐν ἐσθήσεσιν ἀστραπτούσαις 24:4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
24:5 Cum timerent autem, et declinarent vultum in terram, dixerunt ad illas: Quid quæritis viventem cum mortuis? 24:5 ἐμφόβων δὲ γενομένων αὐτῶν καὶ κλινουσῶν τὸ πρόσωπον εἰς τὴν γῆν εἶπον πρὸς αὐτάς τί ζητεῖτε τὸν ζῶντα μετὰ τῶν νεκρῶν 24:5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
24:6 non est hic, sed surrexit: recordamini qualiter locutus est vobis, cum adhuc in Galilæa esset, 24:6 οὐκ ἔστιν ὧδε ἀλλ᾽ ἠγέρθη μνήσθητε ὡς ἐλάλησεν ὑμῖν ἔτι ὢν ἐν τῇ γαλιλαίᾳ 24:6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
24:7 dicens: Quia oportet Filium hominis tradi in manus hominum peccatorum, et crucifigi, et die tertia resurgere. 24:7 λέγων ὅτι δεῖ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδοθῆναι εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων ἁμαρτωλῶν καὶ σταυρωθῆναι καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἀναστῆναι 24:7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
24:8 Et recordatæ sunt verborum ejus. 24:8 καὶ ἐμνήσθησαν τῶν ῥημάτων αὐτοῦ 24:8 And they remembered his words,
24:9 Et regressæ a monumento nuntiaverunt hæc omnia illis undecim, et ceteris omnibus. 24:9 καὶ ὑποστρέψασαι ἀπὸ τοῦ μνημείου ἀπήγγειλαν ταῦτα πάντα τοῖς ἕνδεκα καὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς λοιποῖς 24:9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
Luke 24:10 ἦσαν δὲ ἡ μαγδαληνὴ μαρία καὶ ἰωάννα καὶ μαρία ἰακώβου καὶ αἱ λοιπαὶ σὺν αὐταῖς αἱ ἔλεγον πρὸς τοὺς ἀποστόλους ταῦτα Luke 24:10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
24:11 καὶ ἐφάνησαν ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν ὡσεὶ λῆρος τὰ ῥήματα αὐτῶν καὶ ἠπίστουν αὐταῖς 24:11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
24:12 ὁ δὲ πέτρος ἀναστὰς ἔδραμεν ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον καὶ παρακύψας βλέπει τὰ ὀθόνια κείμενα μόνα καὶ ἀπῆλθεν πρὸς ἑαυτὸν θαυμάζων τὸ γεγονός 24:12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
24:13 καὶ ἰδού, δύο ἐξ αὐτῶν ἦσαν πορευόμενοι ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ εἰς κώμην ἀπέχουσαν σταδίους ἑξήκοντα ἀπὸ ἰερουσαλήμ ᾗ ὄνομα ἐμμαοῦς 24:13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
24:14 καὶ αὐτοὶ ὡμίλουν πρὸς ἀλλήλους περὶ πάντων τῶν συμβεβηκότων τούτων 24:14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
24:15 Et factum est, dum fabularentur, et secum quærerent: et ipse Jesus appropinquans ibat cum illis: 24:15 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ὁμιλεῖν αὐτοὺς καὶ συζητεῖν καὶ αὐτὸς ὁ ἰησοῦς ἐγγίσας συνεπορεύετο αὐτοῖς 24:15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
24:16 oculi autem illorum tenebantur ne eum agnoscerent. 24:16 οἱ δὲ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτῶν ἐκρατοῦντο τοῦ μὴ ἐπιγνῶναι αὐτόν 24:16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
24:17 εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς τίνες οἱ λόγοι οὗτοι οὓς ἀντιβάλλετε πρὸς ἀλλήλους περιπατοῦντες καὶ ἐστὲ σκυθρωποί 24:17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
24:18 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ εἷς ᾧ ὄνομα κλεοπᾶς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν σὺ μόνος παροικεῖς ἐν ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ οὐκ ἔγνως τὰ γενόμενα ἐν αὐτῇ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ταύταις 24:18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
24:19 Quibus ille dixit: Quæ? Et dixerunt: De Jesu Nazareno, qui fuit vir propheta, potens in opere et sermone coram Deo et omni populo: 24:19 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ποῖα οἱ δὲ εἶπον αὐτῷ τὰ περὶ ἰησοῦ τοῦ ναζωραίου, ὃς ἐγένετο ἀνὴρ προφήτης δυνατὸς ἐν ἔργῳ καὶ λόγῳ ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ 24:19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
Luke 24:20 et quomodo eum tradiderunt summi sacerdotes et principes nostri in damnationem mortis, et crucifixerunt eum: Luke 24:20 ὅπως τε παρέδωκαν αὐτὸν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες ἡμῶν εἰς κρίμα θανάτου καὶ ἐσταύρωσαν αὐτόν Luke 24:20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
24:21 ἡμεῖς δὲ ἠλπίζομεν ὅτι αὐτός ἐστιν ὁ μέλλων λυτροῦσθαι τὸν ἰσραήλ ἀλλά γε σὺν πᾶσιν τούτοις τρίτην ταύτην ἡμέραν ἄγει σήμερον, ἀφ᾽ οὗ ταῦτα ἐγένετο 24:21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
24:22 Sed et mulieres quædam ex nostris terruerunt nos, quæ ante lucem fuerunt ad monumentum, 24:22 ἀλλὰ καὶ γυναῖκές τινες ἐξ ἡμῶν ἐξέστησαν ἡμᾶς γενόμεναι ὀρθριαὶ ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον 24:22 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
24:23 καὶ μὴ εὑροῦσαι τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ ἦλθον λέγουσαι καὶ ὀπτασίαν ἀγγέλων ἑωρακέναι οἳ λέγουσιν αὐτὸν ζῆν 24:23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
24:24 καὶ ἀπῆλθόν τινες τῶν σὺν ἡμῖν ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον καὶ εὗρον οὕτως καθὼς καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες εἶπον αὐτὸν δὲ οὐκ εἶδον 24:24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
24:25 καὶ αὐτὸς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς ὦ ἀνόητοι καὶ βραδεῖς τῇ καρδίᾳ τοῦ πιστεύειν ἐπὶ πᾶσιν οἷς ἐλάλησαν οἱ προφῆται 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
24:26 Nonne hæc oportuit pati Christum, et ita intrare in gloriam suam? 24:26 οὐχὶ ταῦτα ἔδει παθεῖν τὸν χριστὸν καὶ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ 24:26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
24:27 καὶ ἀρξάμενος ἀπὸ μωσέως καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν προφητῶν διηρμήνευεν αὐτοῖς ἐν πάσαις ταῖς γραφαῖς τὰ περὶ ἑαυτοῦ 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
24:28 καὶ ἤγγισαν εἰς τὴν κώμην οὗ ἐπορεύοντο καὶ αὐτὸς προσεποιεῖτο ποῤῥωτέρω πορεύεσθαι 24:28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
24:29 καὶ παρεβιάσαντο αὐτὸν λέγοντες μεῖνον μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν ὅτι πρὸς ἑσπέραν ἐστὶν καὶ κέκλικεν ἡ ἡμέρα καὶ εἰσῆλθεν τοῦ μεῖναι σὺν αὐτοῖς 24:29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
Luke 24:30 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ κατακλιθῆναι αὐτὸν μετ᾽ αὐτῶν λαβὼν τὸν ἄρτον εὐλόγησεν καὶ κλάσας ἐπεδίδου αὐτοῖς Luke 24:30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
24:31 αὐτῶν δὲ διηνοίχθησαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ καὶ ἐπέγνωσαν αὐτόν καὶ αὐτὸς ἄφαντος ἐγένετο ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν 24:31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
24:32 καὶ εἶπον πρὸς ἀλλήλους οὐχὶ ἡ καρδία ἡμῶν καιομένη ἦν ἐν ἡμῖν ὡς ἐλάλει ἡμῖν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ καὶ ὡς διήνοιγεν ἡμῖν τὰς γραφάς 24:32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
24:33 Et surgentes eadem hora regressi sunt in Jerusalem: et invenerunt congregatos undecim, et eos qui cum illis erant, 24:33 καὶ ἀναστάντες αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς ἰερουσαλήμ καὶ εὗρον συνηθροισμένους τοὺς ἕνδεκα καὶ τοὺς σὺν αὐτοῖς 24:33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
24:34 dicentes: Quod surrexit Dominus vere, et apparuit Simoni. 24:34 λέγοντας ὅτι ἠγέρθη ὁ κύριος ὄντως καὶ ὤφθη σίμωνι 24:34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
24:35 Et ipsi narrabant quæ gesta erant in via, et quomodo cognoverunt eum in fractione panis. 24:35 καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐξηγοῦντο τὰ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ καὶ ὡς ἐγνώσθη αὐτοῖς ἐν τῇ κλάσει τοῦ ἄρτου 24:35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.
24:36 Dum autem hæc loquuntur, stetit Jesus in medio eorum, et dicit eis: Pax vobis: ego sum, nolite timere. 24:36 ταῦτα δὲ αὐτῶν λαλούντων αὐτὸς ὁ ἰησοῦς ἔστη ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς εἰρήνη ὑμῖν 24:36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
24:37 πτοηθέντες δὲ καὶ ἔμφοβοι γενόμενοι ἐδόκουν πνεῦμα θεωρεῖν 24:37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
24:38 Et dixit eis: Quid turbati estis, et cogitationes ascendunt in corda vestra? 24:38 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς τί τεταραγμένοι ἐστέ καὶ διατί διαλογισμοὶ ἀναβαίνουσιν ἐν ταῖς καρδίαις ὑμῶν 24:38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
24:39 ἴδετε τὰς χεῖράς μου καὶ τοὺς πόδας μου ὅτι αὐτός ἐγώ εἰμι ψηλαφήσατέ με καὶ ἴδετε ὅτι πνεῦμα σάρκα καὶ ὀστέα οὐκ ἔχει καθὼς ἐμὲ θεωρεῖτε ἔχοντα 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
Luke 24:40 καὶ τοῦτο εἰπὼν ἐπέδειξεν αὐτοῖς τὰς χεῖρας καὶ τοὺς πόδας Luke 24:40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
24:41 ἔτι δὲ ἀπιστούντων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῆς χαρᾶς καὶ θαυμαζόντων εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ἕχετέ τι βρώσιμον ἐνθάδε 24:41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
24:42 At illi obtulerunt ei partem piscis assi et favum mellis. 24:42 οἱ δὲ ἐπέδωκαν αὐτῷ ἰχθύος ὀπτοῦ μέρος καὶ ἀπὸ μελισσίου κηρίου 24:42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
24:43 καὶ λαβὼν ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν ἔφαγεν 24:43 And he took it, and did eat before them.
24:44 Et dixit ad eos: Hæc sunt verba quæ locutus sum ad vos cum adhuc essem vobiscum, quoniam necesse est impleri omnia quæ scripta sunt in lege Moysi, et prophetis, et Psalmis de me. 24:44 εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς οὗτοι οἱ λόγοι οὓς ἐλάλησα πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἔτι ὢν σὺν ὑμῖν ὅτι δεῖ πληρωθῆναι πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν τῷ νόμῳ μωσέως καὶ προφήταις καὶ ψαλμοῖς περὶ ἐμοῦ 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
24:45 Tunc aperuit illis sensum ut intelligerent Scripturas, 24:45 τότε διήνοιξεν αὐτῶν τὸν νοῦν τοῦ συνιέναι τὰς γραφάς 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
24:46 et dixit eis: Quoniam sic scriptum est, et sic oportebat Christum pati, et resurgere a mortuis tertia die: 24:46 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι οὕτως γέγραπται καὶ οὕτως ἔδει παθεῖν τὸν χριστὸν καὶ ἀναστῆναι ἐκ νεκρῶν τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ 24:46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
24:47 et prædicari in nomine ejus pœnitentiam, et remissionem peccatorum in omnes gentes, incipientibus ab Jerosolyma. 24:47 καὶ κηρυχθῆναι ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ μετάνοιαν καὶ ἄφεσιν ἁμαρτιῶν εἰς πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἀρξάμενον ἀπὸ ἰερουσαλήμ 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
24:48 Vos autem testes estis horum. 24:48 ὑμεῖς δὲ ἐστε μάρτυρες τούτων 24:48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
24:49 καὶ ἰδού, ἐγὼ ἀποστέλλω τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν τοῦ πατρός μου ἐφ᾽ ὑμᾶς ὑμεῖς δὲ καθίσατε ἐν τῇ πόλει ἰερουσαλήμ, ἕως οὗ ἐνδύσησθε δύναμιν ἐξ ὕψους 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Luke 24:50 ἐξήγαγεν δὲ αὐτοὺς ἔξω ἕως εἰς βηθανίαν καὶ ἐπάρας τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ εὐλόγησεν αὐτούς Luke 24:50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
24:51 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ εὐλογεῖν αὐτὸν αὐτοὺς διέστη ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν καὶ ἀνεφέρετο εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν 24:51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
24:52 Et ipsi adorantes regressi sunt in Jerusalem cum gaudio magno: 24:52 καὶ αὐτοὶ προσκυνήσαντες αὐτὸν ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς ἰερουσαλὴμ μετὰ χαρᾶς μεγάλης 24:52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:
24:53 et erant semper in templo, laudantes et benedicentes Deum. Amen. 24:53 καὶ ἦσαν διαπαντὸς ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ αἰνοῦντες καὶ εὐλογοῦντες τὸν θεόν ἀμήν 24:53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
