HEBREWS CHAPTER 10

Latin VulgateGreek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
Hebrews 10:1 Umbram enim habens lex futurorum bonorum, non ipsam imaginem rerum: per singulos annos, eisdem ipsis hostiis quas offerunt indesinenter, numquam potest accedentes perfectos facere: Hebrews 10:1 σκιὰν γὰρ ἔχων ὁ νόμος τῶν μελλόντων ἀγαθῶν οὐκ αὐτὴν τὴν εἰκόνα τῶν πραγμάτων κατ᾽ ἐνιαυτὸν ταῖς αὐταῖς θυσίαις ἃς προσφέρουσιν εἰς τὸ διηνεκὲς οὐδέποτε δύναται τοὺς προσερχομένους τελειῶσαι Hebrews 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
10:2 alioquin cessassent offerri: ideo quod nullam haberent ultra conscientiam peccati, cultores semel mundati: 10:2 ἐπεὶ οὐκ ἂν ἐπαύσαντο προσφερόμεναι διὰ τὸ μηδεμίαν ἔχειν ἔτι συνείδησιν ἁμαρτιῶν τοὺς λατρεύοντας ἅπαξ κεκαθαρμένους 10:2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
10:3 sed in ipsis commemoratio peccatorum per singulos annos fit. 10:3 ἀλλ᾽ ἐν αὐταῖς ἀνάμνησις ἁμαρτιῶν κατ᾽ ἐνιαυτόν 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
10:4 Impossibile enim est sanguine taurorum et hircorum auferri peccata. 10:4 ἀδύνατον γὰρ αἷμα ταύρων καὶ τράγων ἀφαιρεῖν ἁμαρτίας 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
10:5 Ideo ingrediens mundum dicit: Hostiam et oblationem noluisti: corpus autem aptasti mihi: 10:5 διὸ εἰσερχόμενος εἰς τὸν κόσμον λέγει θυσίαν καὶ προσφορὰν οὐκ ἠθέλησας σῶμα δὲ κατηρτίσω μοι 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
10:6 holocautomata pro peccato non tibi placuerunt. 10:6 ὁλοκαυτώματα καὶ περὶ ἁμαρτίας οὐκ εὐδόκησας 10:6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
10:7 Tunc dixi: Ecce venio: in capite libri scriptum est de me: Ut faciam, Deus, voluntatem tuam. 10:7 τότε εἶπον ἰδού ἥκω ἐν κεφαλίδι βιβλίου γέγραπται περὶ ἐμοῦ τοῦ ποιῆσαι ὁ θεός τὸ θέλημά σου 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
10:8 Superius dicens: Quia hostias, et oblationes, et holocautomata pro peccato noluisti, nec placita sunt tibi, quæ secundum legem offeruntur, 10:8 ἀνώτερον λέγων ὅτι θυσίαν καὶ προσφορὰν καὶ ὁλοκαυτώματα καὶ περὶ ἁμαρτίας οὐκ ἠθέλησας οὐδὲ εὐδόκησας αἵτινες κατὰ τόν νόμον προσφέρονται 10:8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
10:9 tunc dixi: Ecce venio, ut faciam, Deus, voluntatem tuam: aufert primum, ut sequens statuat. 10:9 τότε εἴρηκεν ἰδού ἥκω τοῦ ποιῆσαι ὁ θεός τὸ θέλημά σου ἀναιρεῖ τὸ πρῶτον ἵνα τὸ δεύτερον στήσῃ 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
Hebrews 10:10 In qua voluntate sanctificati sumus per oblationem corporis Jesu Christi semel. Hebrews 10:10 ἐν ᾧ θελήματι ἡγιασμένοι ἐσμὲν οἱ διὰ τῆς προσφορᾶς τοῦ σώματος τοῦ ἰησοῦ χριστοῦ ἐφάπαξ Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
10:11 Et omnis quidem sacerdos præsto est quotidie ministrans, et easdem sæpe offerens hostias, quæ numquam possunt auferre peccata: 10:11 καὶ πᾶς μὲν ἱερεὺς ἕστηκεν καθ᾽ ἡμέραν λειτουργῶν καὶ τὰς αὐτὰς πολλάκις προσφέρων θυσίας αἵτινες οὐδέποτε δύνανται περιελεῖν ἁμαρτίας 10:11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
10:12 hic autem unam pro peccatis offerens hostiam, in sempiternum sedet in dextera Dei, 10:12 αὗτος δὲ μίαν ὑπὲρ ἁμαρτιῶν προσενέγκας θυσίαν εἰς τὸ διηνεκὲς ἐκάθισεν ἐν δεξιᾷ τοῦ θεοῦ 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
10:13 de cetero exspectans donec ponantur inimici ejus scabellum pedum ejus. 10:13 τὸ λοιπὸν ἐκδεχόμενος ἕως τεθῶσιν οἱ ἐχθροὶ αὐτοῦ ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν αὐτοῦ 10:13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
10:14 Una enim oblatione, consummavit in sempiternum sanctificatos. 10:14 μιᾷ γὰρ προσφορᾷ τετελείωκεν εἰς τὸ διηνεκὲς τοὺς ἁγιαζομένους 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
10:15 Contestatur autem nos et Spiritus Sanctus. Postquam enim dixit: 10:15 μαρτυρεῖ δὲ ἡμῖν καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον μετὰ γὰρ τὸ προειρηκέναι 10:15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
10:16 Hoc autem testamentum, quod testabor ad illos post dies illos, dicit Dominus, dando leges meas in cordibus eorum, et in mentibus eorum superscribam eas: 10:16 αὕτη ἡ διαθήκη ἣν διαθήσομαι πρὸς αὐτοὺς μετὰ τὰς ἡμέρας ἐκείνας λέγει κύριος διδοὺς νόμους μου ἐπὶ καρδίας αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν διανοιῶν αὐτῶν ἐπιγράψω αὐτούς 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
10:17 et peccatorum, et iniquitatum eorum jam non recordabor amplius. 10:17 καὶ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτῶν καὶ τῶν ἀνομιῶν αὐτῶν οὐ μὴ μνησθῶ ἔτι 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
10:18 Ubi autem horum remissio: jam non est oblatio pro peccato. 10:18 ὅπου δὲ ἄφεσις τούτων οὐκέτι προσφορὰ περὶ ἁμαρτίας 10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
10:19 Habentes itaque, fratres, fiduciam in introitu sanctorum in sanguine Christi, 10:19 ἕχοντες οὖν ἀδελφοί παῤῥησίαν εἰς τὴν εἴσοδον τῶν ἁγίων ἐν τῷ αἵματι ἰησοῦ 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
Hebrews 10:20 quam initiavit nobis viam novam, et viventem per velamen, id est, carnem suam, Hebrews 10:20 ἣν ἐνεκαίνισεν ἡμῖν ὁδὸν πρόσφατον καὶ ζῶσαν διὰ τοῦ καταπετάσματος τουτέστιν τῆς σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ Hebrews 10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
10:21 et sacerdotem magnum super domum Dei: 10:21 καὶ ἱερέα μέγαν ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον τοῦ θεοῦ 10:21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
10:22 accedamus cum vero corde in plenitudine fidei, aspersi corda a conscientia mala, et abluti corpus aqua munda, 10:22 προσερχώμεθα μετὰ ἀληθινῆς καρδίας ἐν πληροφορίᾳ πίστεως ἐῤῥαντισμένοι τὰς καρδίας ἀπὸ συνειδήσεως πονηρᾶς καὶ λελουμένοι τὸ σῶμα ὕδατι καθαρῷ 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
10:23 teneamus spei nostræ confessionem indeclinabilem (fidelis enim est qui repromisit), 10:23 κατέχωμεν τὴν ὁμολογίαν τῆς ἐλπίδος ἀκλινῆ πιστὸς γὰρ ὁ ἐπαγγειλάμενος 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
10:24 et consideremus invicem in provocationem caritatis, et bonorum operum: 10:24 καὶ κατανοῶμεν ἀλλήλους εἰς παροξυσμὸν ἀγάπης καὶ καλῶν ἔργων 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
10:25 non deserentes collectionem nostram, sicut consuetudinis est quibusdam, sed consolantes, et tanto magis quanto videritis appropinquantem diem. 10:25 μὴ ἐγκαταλείποντες τὴν ἐπισυναγωγὴν ἑαυτῶν καθὼς ἔθος τισίν ἀλλὰ παρακαλοῦντες καὶ τοσούτῳ μᾶλλον ὅσῳ βλέπετε ἐγγίζουσαν τὴν ἡμέραν 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
10:26 Voluntarie enim peccantibus nobis post acceptam notitiam veritatis, jam non relinquitur pro peccatis hostia, 10:26 ἑκουσίως γὰρ ἁμαρτανόντων ἡμῶν μετὰ τὸ λαβεῖν τὴν ἐπίγνωσιν τῆς ἀληθείας οὐκέτι περὶ ἁμαρτιῶν ἀπολείπεται θυσία 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
10:27 terribilis autem quædam exspectatio judicii, et ignis æmulatio, quæ consumptura est adversarios. 10:27 φοβερὰ δέ τις ἐκδοχὴ κρίσεως καὶ πυρὸς ζῆλος ἐσθίειν μέλλοντος τοὺς ὑπεναντίους 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
10:28 Irritam quis faciens legem Moysi, sine ulla miseratione duobus vel tribus testibus moritur: 10:28 ἀθετήσας τις νόμον μωσέως χωρὶς οἰκτιρμῶν ἐπὶ δυσὶν ἢ τρισὶν μάρτυσιν ἀποθνῄσκει 10:28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
10:29 quanto magis putatis deteriora mereri supplicia qui Filium Dei conculcaverit, et sanguinem testamenti pollutum duxerit, in quo sanctificatus est, et spiritui gratiæ contumeliam fecerit? 10:29 πόσῳ δοκεῖτε χείρονος ἀξιωθήσεται τιμωρίας ὁ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ θεοῦ καταπατήσας καὶ τὸ αἷμα τῆς διαθήκης κοινὸν ἡγησάμενος ἐν ᾧ ἡγιάσθη καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα τῆς χάριτος ἐνυβρίσας 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Hebrews 10:30 Scimus enim qui dixit: Mihi vindicta, et ego retribuam. Et iterum: Quia judicabit Dominus populum suum. Hebrews 10:30 οἴδαμεν γὰρ τὸν εἰπόντα ἐμοὶ ἐκδίκησις ἐγὼ ἀνταποδώσω λέγει κύριος καὶ πάλιν κύριος κρινεῖ τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ Hebrews 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
10:31 Horrendum est incidere in manus Dei viventis. 10:31 φοβερὸν τὸ ἐμπεσεῖν εἰς χεῖρας θεοῦ ζῶντος 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
10:32 Rememoramini autem pristinos dies, in quibus illuminati, magnum certamen sustinuistis passionum: 10:32 ἀναμιμνῄσκεσθε δὲ τὰς πρότερον ἡμέρας ἐν αἷς φωτισθέντες πολλὴν ἄθλησιν ὑπεμείνατε παθημάτων 10:32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;
10:33 et in altero quidem opprobriis et tribulationibus spectaculum facti: in altero autem socii taliter conversantium effecti. 10:33 τοῦτο μὲν ὀνειδισμοῖς τε καὶ θλίψεσιν θεατριζόμενοι τοῦτο δὲ κοινωνοὶ τῶν οὕτως ἀναστρεφομένων γενηθέντες 10:33 Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.
10:34 Nam et vinctis compassi estis, et rapinam bonorum vestrorum cum gaudio suscepistis, cognoscentes vos habere meliorem et manentem substantiam. 10:34 καὶ γὰρ τοῖς δεσμοῖς μου συνεπαθήσατε καὶ τὴν ἁρπαγὴν τῶν ὑπαρχόντων ὑμῶν μετὰ χαρᾶς προσεδέξασθε γινώσκοντες ἔχειν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς κρείττονα ὕπαρξιν ἐν οὐρανοῖς καὶ μένουσαν 10:34 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.
10:35 Nolite itaque amittere confidentiam vestram, quæ magnam habet remunerationem. 10:35 μὴ ἀποβάλητε οὖν τὴν παῤῥησίαν ὑμῶν ἥτις ἔχει μισθαποδοσίαν μεγάλην 10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
10:36 Patientia enim vobis necessaria est: ut voluntatem Dei facientes, reportetis promissionem. 10:36 ὑπομονῆς γὰρ ἔχετε χρείαν ἵνα τὸ θέλημα τοῦ θεοῦ ποιήσαντες κομίσησθε τὴν ἐπαγγελίαν 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
10:37 Adhuc enim modicum aliquantulum, qui venturus est, veniet, et non tardabit. 10:37 eti gar mikron oson oson o erxomenoj hcei kai ou xroniei 10:37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
10:38 Justus autem meus ex fide vivit: quod si subtraxerit se, non placebit animæ meæ. 10:38 ὁ δὲ δίκαιός ἐκ πίστεως ζήσεται καὶ ἐὰν ὑποστείληται οὐκ εὐδοκεῖ ἡ ψυχή μου ἐν αὐτῷ 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
10:39Nos autem non sumus subtractionis filii in perditionem, sed fidei in acquisitionem animæ. 10:39 ἡμεῖς δὲ οὐκ ἐσμὲν ὑποστολῆς εἰς ἀπώλειαν ἀλλὰ πίστεως εἰς περιποίησιν ψυχῆς 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
