Word, reason, discourse
The Greek word Logos (λόγος) appears in John 1:1 — 'In the beginning was the Word.' It refers to the divine Word, Jesus Christ, and the word of God. This is the root of the name Logos Apostolic.
Apostle, one sent forth
From apostellō (to send away). An apostle is one who is sent with authority. The twelve apostles were sent by Jesus Christ to preach the gospel and establish the church.
Baptism, immersion
The Greek word for baptism means immersion or dipping. The New Testament consistently uses this word to describe the act of being fully immersed in water in the name of Jesus Christ.
Repentance, change of mind
Metanoia means a change of mind and heart — a turning away from sin and toward God. It is the first step of the gospel response as preached by Peter in Acts 2:38.
Spirit, breath, wind
The Greek word for spirit or breath. Used throughout the New Testament for the Holy Spirit (Pneuma Hagion). The gift of the Holy Spirit is promised to all who repent and are baptised.
Salvation, deliverance
Soteria refers to salvation, deliverance, and preservation. It encompasses the full work of God in saving mankind from sin through Jesus Christ.
Church, assembly, called out ones
The Greek word translated 'church' literally means 'called out assembly.' The church is the body of believers called out of the world and into the kingdom of God.
Love, unconditional love
The highest form of love in Greek — unconditional, self-giving love. Used throughout the New Testament to describe God's love for mankind and the love Christians are to have for one another.
Faith, belief, trust
Pistis is the Greek word for faith — a firm conviction, trust, and reliance upon God and his word. Without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).
Grace, favour, goodwill
Charis means grace — the unmerited favour of God toward mankind. It is by grace through faith that we are saved (Ephesians 2:8).
Gospel, good news
The Greek word for gospel literally means 'good news.' The gospel is the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ — his death, burial, and resurrection.
Coming, presence, arrival
Parousia refers to the coming or presence of Christ. It is used in the New Testament to describe the second coming of Jesus Christ at the end of the age.
