JOHN CHAPTER 8

Latin VulgateGreek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
John 8:1 Jesus autem perrexit in montem Oliveti: John 8:1 ἰησοῦς δὲ ἐπορεύθη εἰς τὸ ὄρος τῶν ἐλαιῶν John 8:1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
8:2 ὄρθρου δὲ πάλιν παρεγένετο εἰς τὸ ἱερόν καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ἤρχετο πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ καθίσας ἐδίδασκεν αὐτούς 8:2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
8:3 Adducunt autem scribæ et pharisæi mulierem in adulterio deprehensam: et statuerunt eam in medio, 8:3 ἄγουσιν δὲ οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ φαρισαῖοι πρὸς αὐτὸν γυναῖκα ἐν μοιχείᾳ κατειλημμένην καὶ στήσαντες αὐτὴν ἐν μέσῳ 8:3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
8:4 et dixerunt ei: Magister, hæc mulier modo deprehensa est in adulterio. 8:4 λέγουσιν αὐτῷ διδάσκαλε αὕτη ἡ γυνὴ κατείληφθη ἐπαυτοφώρῳ μοιχευομένη 8:4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
8:5 In lege autem Moyses mandavit nobis hujusmodi lapidare. Tu ergo quid dicis? 8:5 ἐν δὲ τῷ νόμῳ μωσῆς ἡμῖν ἐνετείλατο τὰς τοιαύτας λιθοβολεῖσθαι σὺ οὖν τί λέγεις 8:5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
8:6 τοῦτο δὲ ἔλεγον πειράζοντες αὐτόν ἵνα ἔχωσιν κατηγορεῖν αὐτοῦ ὁ δὲ ἰησοῦς κάτω κύψας τῷ δακτύλῳ ἔγραφεν εἰς τὴν γῆν 8:6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
8:7 ὡς δὲ ἐπέμενον ἐρωτῶντες αὐτόν ἀνάκυψας εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς ὁ ἀναμάρτητος ὑμῶν πρῶτος τὸν λίθον ἐπ᾽ αὓτη βαλέτω 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8:8 Et iterum se inclinans, scribebat in terra. 8:8 καὶ πάλιν κάτω κύψας ἔγραφεν εἰς τὴν γῆν 8:8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
8:9 οἱ δὲ ἀκούσαντες καὶ ὑπὸ τῆς συνειδήσεως ἐλεγχόμενοι, ἐξήρχοντο εἷς καθ᾽ εἷς ἀρξάμενοι ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων ἕως τῶν ἐσχάτων καὶ κατελείφθη μόνος ὁ ἰησοῦς, καὶ ἡ γυνὴ ἐν μέσῳ ἑστῶσα 8:9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
John 8:10 ἀνακύψας δὲ ὁ ἰησοῦς καὶ μηδένα θεασάμενος πλὴν τὴς γυναικὸς, εἶπεν αὐτῇ ἡ γυνή ποῦ εἰσιν ἐκεῖνοι οἱ κατήγοροί σου οὐδείς σε κατέκρινεν John 8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
8:11 ἡ δὲ εἶπεν οὐδείς κύριε εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῇ ὁ ἰησοῦς οὐδὲ ἐγώ σε κατακρίνω πορεύου καὶ μηκέτι ἁμάρτανε 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
8:12 πάλιν οὖν ὁ ἰησοῦς αὐτοῖς ἐλάλησεν λέγων, ἐγώ εἰμι τὸ φῶς τοῦ κόσμου ὁ ἀκολουθῶν ἐμοὶ οὐ μὴ περιπατήσει ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ ἀλλ᾽ ἕξει τὸ φῶς τῆς ζωῆς 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
8:13 εἶπον οὖν αὐτῷ οἱ φαρισαῖοι σὺ περὶ σεαυτοῦ μαρτυρεῖς ἡ μαρτυρία σου οὐκ ἔστιν ἀληθής 8:13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
8:14 ἀπεκρίθη ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς κἂν ἐγὼ μαρτυρῶ περὶ ἐμαυτοῦ ἀληθής ἐστιν ἡ μαρτυρία μου ὅτι οἶδα πόθεν ἦλθον καὶ ποῦ ὑπάγω ὑμεῖς δὲ οὐκ οἴδατε πόθεν ἔρχομαι καὶ ποῦ ὑπάγω 8:14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
8:15 Vos secundum carnem judicatis: ego non judico quemquam; 8:15 ὑμεῖς κατὰ τὴν σάρκα κρίνετε ἐγὼ οὐ κρίνω οὐδένα 8:15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.
8:16 καὶ ἐὰν κρίνω δὲ ἐγώ ἡ κρίσις ἡ ἐμὴ ἀληθής ἐστιν ὅτι μόνος οὐκ εἰμί ἀλλ᾽ ἐγὼ καὶ ὁ πέμψας με πατήρ 8:16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
8:17 καὶ ἐν τῷ νόμῳ δὲ τῷ ὑμετέρῳ γέγραπται ὅτι δύο ἀνθρώπων ἡ μαρτυρία ἀληθής ἐστιν 8:17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
8:18 Ego sum qui testimonium perhibeo de meipso, et testimonium perhibet de me qui misit me, Pater. 8:18 ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ μαρτυρῶν περὶ ἐμαυτοῦ καὶ μαρτυρεῖ περὶ ἐμοῦ ὁ πέμψας με πατήρ 8:18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
8:19 Dicebant ergo ei: Ubi est Pater tuus? Respondit Jesus: Neque me scitis, neque Patrem meum: si me sciretis, forsitan et Patrem meum sciretis. 8:19 ἔλεγον οὖν αὐτῷ ποῦ ἐστιν ὁ πατήρ σου ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ἰησοῦς οὔτε ἐμὲ οἴδατε οὔτε τὸν πατέρα μου εἰ ἐμὲ ᾔδειτε καὶ τὸν πατέρα μου ᾔδειτε ἂν 8:19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
John 8:20 Hæc verba locutus est Jesus in gazophylacio, docens in templo: et nemo apprehendit eum, quia necdum venerat hora ejus. John 8:20 ταῦτα τὰ ῥήματα ἐλάλησεν ὁ ἰησοῦς ἐν τῷ γαζοφυλακίῳ διδάσκων ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐπίασεν αὐτόν ὅτι οὔπω ἐληλύθει ἡ ὥρα αὐτοῦ John 8:20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
8:21 Dixit ergo iterum eis Jesus: Ego vado, et quæretis me, et in peccato vestro moriemini. Quo ego vado, vos non potestis venire. 8:21 εἶπεν οὖν πάλιν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς, ἐγὼ ὑπάγω καὶ ζητήσετέ με καὶ ἐν τῇ ἁμαρτίᾳ ὑμῶν ἀποθανεῖσθε ὅπου ἐγὼ ὑπάγω ὑμεῖς οὐ δύνασθε ἐλθεῖν 8:21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
8:22 Dicebant ergo Judæi: Numquid interficiet semetipsum, quia dixit: Quo ego vado, vos non potestis venire? 8:22 ἔλεγον οὖν οἱ ἰουδαῖοι μήτι ἀποκτενεῖ ἑαυτόν ὅτι λέγει ὅπου ἐγὼ ὑπάγω ὑμεῖς οὐ δύνασθε ἐλθεῖν 8:22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
8:23 καὶ εἴπεν αὐτοῖς ὑμεῖς ἐκ τῶν κάτω ἐστέ ἐγὼ ἐκ τῶν ἄνω εἰμί ὑμεῖς ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου τούτου ἐστέ ἐγὼ οὐκ εἰμὶ ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου τούτου 8:23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
8:24 εἶπον οὖν ὑμῖν ὅτι ἀποθανεῖσθε ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις ὑμῶν ἐὰν γὰρ μὴ πιστεύσητε ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι ἀποθανεῖσθε ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις ὑμῶν 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
8:25 ἔλεγον οὖν αὐτῷ σὺ τίς εἶ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς τὴν ἀρχὴν ὅ τι καὶ λαλῶ ὑμῖν 8:25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
8:26 πολλὰ ἔχω περὶ ὑμῶν λαλεῖν καὶ κρίνειν ἀλλ᾽ ὁ πέμψας με ἀληθής ἐστιν κἀγὼ ἃ ἤκουσα παρ᾽ αὐτοῦ ταῦτα λὲγω εἰς τὸν κόσμον 8:26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
8:27 οὐκ ἔγνωσαν ὅτι τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῖς ἔλεγεν 8:27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
8:28 Dixit ergo eis Jesus: Cum exaltaveritis Filium hominis, tunc cognoscetis quia ego sum, et a meipso facio nihil, sed sicut docuit me Pater, hæc loquor: 8:28 εἶπεν οὖν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς ὅταν ὑψώσητε τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τότε γνώσεσθε ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι καὶ ἀπ᾽ ἐμαυτοῦ ποιῶ οὐδέν ἀλλὰ καθὼς ἐδίδαξέν με ὁ πατὴρ μου, ταῦτα λαλῶ 8:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
8:29 et qui me misit, mecum est, et non reliquit me solum: quia ego quæ placita sunt ei, facio semper. 8:29 καὶ ὁ πέμψας με μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ ἐστιν οὐκ ἀφῆκέν με μόνον ὁ πατὴρ, ὅτι ἐγὼ τὰ ἀρεστὰ αὐτῷ ποιῶ πάντοτε 8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
John 8:30 Hæc illo loquente, multi crediderunt in eum. John 8:30 ταῦτα αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος πολλοὶ ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτόν John 8:30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.
8:31 Dicebat ergo Jesus ad eos, qui crediderunt ei, Judæos: Si vos manseritis in sermone meo, vere discipuli mei eritis, 8:31 ἔλεγεν οὖν ὁ ἰησοῦς πρὸς τοὺς πεπιστευκότας αὐτῷ ἰουδαίους ἐὰν ὑμεῖς μείνητε ἐν τῷ λόγῳ τῷ ἐμῷ ἀληθῶς μαθηταί μού ἐστε 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
8:32 et cognoscetis veritatem, et veritas liberabit vos. 8:32 καὶ γνώσεσθε τὴν ἀλήθειαν καὶ ἡ ἀλήθεια ἐλευθερώσει ὑμᾶς 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
8:33 Responderunt ei: Semen Abrahæ sumus, et nemini servivimus umquam: quomodo tu dicis: Liberi eritis? 8:33 ἀπεκρίθησαν αὐτῷ σπέρμα ἀβραάμ ἐσμεν καὶ οὐδενὶ δεδουλεύκαμεν πώποτε πῶς σὺ λέγεις ὅτι ἐλεύθεροι γενήσεσθε 8:33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
8:34 Respondit eis Jesus: Amen, amen dico vobis: quia omnis qui facit peccatum, servus est peccati. 8:34 ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ποιῶν τὴν ἁμαρτίαν δοῦλός ἐστιν τῆς ἁμαρτίας 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
8:35 ὁ δὲ δοῦλος οὐ μένει ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ὁ υἱὸς μένει εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα 8:35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
8:36 Si ergo vos filius liberaverit, vere liberi eritis. 8:36 ἐὰν οὖν ὁ υἱὸς ὑμᾶς ἐλευθερώσῃ ὄντως ἐλεύθεροι ἔσεσθε 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
8:37 Scio quia filii Abrahæ estis: sed quæritis me interficere, quia sermo meus non capit in vobis. 8:37 οἶδα ὅτι σπέρμα ἀβραάμ ἐστε ἀλλὰ ζητεῖτέ με ἀποκτεῖναι ὅτι ὁ λόγος ὁ ἐμὸς οὐ χωρεῖ ἐν ὑμῖν 8:37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
8:38 Ego quod vidi apud Patrem meum, loquor: et vos quæ vidistis apud patrem vestrum, facitis. 8:38 ἐγὼ ὃ ἑώρακα παρὰ τῷ πατρὶ μου, λαλῶ καὶ ὑμεῖς οὖν ὃ ἑωράκατε παρὰ τῷ πατρὶ ὑμῶν ποιεῖτε 8:38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
8:39 ἀπεκρίθησαν καὶ εἶπον αὐτῷ ὁ πατὴρ ἡμῶν ἀβραάμ ἐστιν λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς εἰ τέκνα τοῦ ἀβραάμ ἦτε, τὰ ἔργα τοῦ ἀβραὰμ ἐποιεῖτε ἄν 8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
John 8:40 Nunc autem quæritis me interficere, hominem, qui veritatem vobis locutus sum, quam audivi a Deo: hoc Abraham non fecit. John 8:40 νῦν δὲ ζητεῖτέ με ἀποκτεῖναι ἄνθρωπον ὃς τὴν ἀλήθειαν ὑμῖν λελάληκα ἣν ἤκουσα παρὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦτο ἀβραὰμ οὐκ ἐποίησεν John 8:40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
8:41 Vos facitis opera patris vestri. 8:41 ὑμεῖς ποιεῖτε τὰ ἔργα τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν εἶπον οὖν αὐτῷ ἡμεῖς ἐκ πορνείας οὐ γεγεννήμεθα ἕνα πατέρα ἔχομεν τὸν θεόν 8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
8:42 Dixit ergo eis Jesus: Si Deus pater vester esset, diligeretis utique et me; ego enim ex Deo processi, et veni: neque enim a meipso veni, sed ille me misit. 8:42 εἶπεν οὖν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς εἰ ὁ θεὸς πατὴρ ὑμῶν ἦν ἠγαπᾶτε ἂν ἐμέ ἐγὼ γὰρ ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐξῆλθον καὶ ἥκω οὐδὲ γὰρ ἀπ᾽ ἐμαυτοῦ ἐλήλυθα ἀλλ᾽ ἐκεῖνός με ἀπέστειλεν 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
8:43 Quare loquelam meam non cognoscitis? Quia non potestis audire sermonem meum. 8:43 διατί τὴν λαλιὰν τὴν ἐμὴν οὐ γινώσκετε ὅτι οὐ δύνασθε ἀκούειν τὸν λόγον τὸν ἐμόν 8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
8:44 ὑμεῖς ἐκ πατρὸς τοῦ διαβόλου ἐστὲ καὶ τὰς ἐπιθυμίας τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν θέλετε ποιεῖν ἐκεῖνος ἀνθρωποκτόνος ἦν ἀπ᾽ ἀρχῆς καὶ ἐν τῇ ἀληθείᾳ οὐχ ἔστηκεν ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἀλήθεια ἐν αὐτῷ ὅταν λαλῇ τὸ ψεῦδος ἐκ τῶν ἰδίων λαλεῖ ὅτι ψεύστης ἐστὶν καὶ ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
8:45 ἐγὼ δὲ ὅτι τὴν ἀλήθειαν λέγω οὐ πιστεύετέ μοι 8:45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
8:46 τίς ἐξ ὑμῶν ἐλέγχει με περὶ ἁμαρτίας εἰ δὲ ἀλήθειαν λέγω διατί ὑμεῖς οὐ πιστεύετέ μοι 8:46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
8:47 ὁ ὢν ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ τὰ ῥήματα τοῦ θεοῦ ἀκούει διὰ τοῦτο ὑμεῖς οὐκ ἀκούετε ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ οὐκ ἐστέ 8:47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
8:48 ἀπεκρίθησαν οὖν οἱ ἰουδαῖοι καὶ εἶπον αὐτῷ οὐ καλῶς λέγομεν ἡμεῖς ὅτι σαμαρείτης εἶ σύ, καὶ δαιμόνιον ἔχεις 8:48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
8:49 Respondit Jesus: Ego dæmonium non habeo: sed honorifico Patrem meum, et vos inhonorastis me. 8:49 ἀπεκρίθη ἰησοῦς ἐγὼ δαιμόνιον οὐκ ἔχω ἀλλὰ τιμῶ τὸν πατέρα μου καὶ ὑμεῖς ἀτιμάζετέ με 8:49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
John 8:50 ἐγὼ δὲ οὐ ζητῶ τὴν δόξαν μου ἔστιν ὁ ζητῶν καὶ κρίνων John 8:50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.
8:51 Amen, amen dico vobis: si quis sermonem meum servaverit, mortem non videbit in æternum. 8:51 ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ἐάν τις τὸν λόγον τὸν ἐμὸν τηρήσῃ θάνατον οὐ μὴ θεωρήσῃ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα 8:51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
8:52 εἶπον οὖν αὐτῷ οἱ ἰουδαῖοι νῦν ἐγνώκαμεν ὅτι δαιμόνιον ἔχεις ἀβραὰμ ἀπέθανεν καὶ οἱ προφῆται καὶ σὺ λέγεις ἐάν τις τὸν λόγον μου τηρήσῃ οὐ μὴ γεύσεται θανάτου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα 8:52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
Quem teipsum facis? 8:53 μὴ σὺ μείζων εἶ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν ἀβραάμ ὅστις ἀπέθανεν καὶ οἱ προφῆται ἀπέθανον τίνα σεαυτὸν σὺ ποιεῖς 8:53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
8:54 Respondit Jesus: Si ego glorifico meipsum, gloria mea nihil est: est Pater meus, qui glorificat me, quem vos dicitis quia Deus vester est, 8:54 ἀπεκρίθη ἰησοῦς ἐὰν ἐγὼ δοξάζω ἐμαυτόν ἡ δόξα μου οὐδέν ἐστιν ἔστιν ὁ πατήρ μου ὁ δοξάζων με ὃν ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι θεὸς ὑμῶν ἐστιν 8:54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
8:55 et non cognovistis eum: ego autem novi eum. Et si dixero quia non scio eum, ero similis vobis, mendax. Sed scio eum, et sermonem ejus servo. 8:55 καὶ οὐκ ἐγνώκατε αὐτόν ἐγὼ δὲ οἶδα αὐτόν καὶ ἐὰν εἴπω ὅτι οὐκ οἶδα αὐτόν ἔσομαι ὅμοιος ὑμῶν, ψεύστης ἀλλ᾽ οἶδα αὐτὸν καὶ τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ τηρῶ 8:55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
8:56 ἀβραὰμ ὁ πατὴρ ὑμῶν ἠγαλλιάσατο ἵνα ἴδῃ τὴν ἡμέραν τὴν ἐμήν καὶ εἶδεν καὶ ἐχάρη 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
8:57 εἶπον οὖν οἱ ἰουδαῖοι πρὸς αὐτόν πεντήκοντα ἔτη οὔπω ἔχεις καὶ ἀβραὰμ ἑώρακας 8:57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
8:58 Dixit eis Jesus: Amen, amen dico vobis, antequam Abraham fieret, ego sum. 8:58 εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ ἰησοῦς ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν πρὶν ἀβραὰμ γενέσθαι ἐγὼ εἰμί 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
8:59 ἦραν οὖν λίθους ἵνα βάλωσιν ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν ἰησοῦς δὲ ἐκρύβη καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἐκ τοῦ ἱεροῦ διελθὼν διὰ μέσου αὐτῶν καὶ παρῆγεν οὕτως 8:59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
