The servant's name was Malchus. |

Discipulus autem ille erat notus pontifici, et introivit cum Jesu in atrium pontificis. | 18:15 ἠκολούθει δὲ τῷ ἰησοῦ σίμων πέτρος καὶ ὁ ἄλλος μαθητής ὁ δὲ μαθητὴς ἐκεῖνος ἦν γνωστὸς τῷ ἀρχιερεῖ καὶ συνεισῆλθεν τῷ ἰησοῦ εἰς τὴν αὐλὴν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως | 18:15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest. |

Exivit ergo discipulus alius, qui erat notus pontifici, et dixit ostiariæ: et introduxit Petrum. | 18:16 ὁ δὲ πέτρος εἱστήκει πρὸς τῇ θύρᾳ ἔξω ἐξῆλθεν οὖν ὁ μαθητὴς ὁ ἄλλος ὅς ἦν γνωστὸς τῷ ἀρχιερεῖ, καὶ εἶπεν τῇ θυρωρῷ καὶ εἰσήγαγεν τὸν πέτρον | 18:16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter. |

Dicit ille: Non sum. | 18:17 λέγει οὖν ἡ παιδίσκη ἡ θυρωρός τῷ πέτρῳ μὴ καὶ σὺ ἐκ τῶν μαθητῶν εἶ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τούτου λέγει ἐκεῖνος οὐκ εἰμί | 18:17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not. |
| 18:18 Stabant autem servi et ministri ad prunas, quia frigus erat, et calefaciebant se: erat autem cum eis et Petrus stans, et calefaciens se. | 18:18 εἱστήκεισαν δὲ οἱ δοῦλοι καὶ οἱ ὑπηρέται ἀνθρακιὰν πεποιηκότες ὅτι ψῦχος ἦν καὶ ἐθερμαίνοντο ἦν δὲ μετ᾽ αὐτῶν ὁ πέτρος ἑστὼς καὶ θερμαινόμενος | 18:18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself. |
| 18:19 Pontifex ergo interrogavit Jesum de discipulis suis, et de doctrina ejus. | 18:19 ὁ οὖν ἀρχιερεὺς ἠρώτησεν τὸν ἰησοῦν περὶ τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ περὶ τῆς διδαχῆς αὐτοῦ | 18:19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine. |
| John 18:20 Respondit ei Jesus: Ego palam locutus sum mundo: ego semper docui in synagoga, et in templo, quo omnes Judæi conveniunt, et in occulto locutus sum nihil. | John 18:20 ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ ὁ ἰησοῦς ἐγὼ παῤῥησίᾳ ἐλάλησα τῷ κόσμῳ ἐγὼ πάντοτε ἐδίδαξα ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ καὶ ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ ὅπου πάντοτε οἱ ἰουδαῖοι συνέρχονται καὶ ἐν κρυπτῷ ελάλησα οὐδέν | John 18:20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing. |
| 18:21 Quid me interrogas? interroga eos qui audierunt quid locutus sim ipsis: ecce hi sciunt quæ dixerim ego. | 18:21 τί με ἐπερωτᾷς ἐπερώτησον τοὺς ἀκηκοότας τί ἐλάλησα αὐτοῖς ἴδε οὗτοι οἴδασιν ἃ εἶπον ἐγώ | 18:21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said. |
| 18:22 Hæc autem cum dixisset, unus assistens ministrorum dedit alapam Jesu, dicens: Sic respondes pontifici? | 18:22 ταῦτα δὲ αὐτοῦ εἰπόντος εἷς τῶν ὑπηρετῶν παρεστηκὼς ἔδωκεν ῥάπισμα τῷ ἰησοῦ εἰπών οὕτως ἀποκρίνῃ τῷ ἀρχιερεῖ | 18:22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? |
| 18:23 Respondit ei Jesus: Si male locutus sum, testimonium perhibe de malo: si autem bene, quid me cædis? | 18:23 ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ ὁ ἰησοῦς εἰ κακῶς ἐλάλησα μαρτύρησον περὶ τοῦ κακοῦ εἰ δὲ καλῶς τί με δέρεις | 18:23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me? |
| 18:24 Et misit eum Annas ligatum ad Caipham pontificem. | 18:24 ἀπέστειλεν αὐτὸν ὁ ἅννας δεδεμένον πρὸς καϊάφαν τὸν ἀρχιερέα | 18:24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest. |

They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not. |
| 18:26 Dicit ei unus ex servis pontificis, cognatus ejus, cujus abscidit Petrus auriculam: Nonne ego te vidi in horto cum illo? | 18:26 λέγει εἷς ἐκ τῶν δούλων τοῦ ἀρχιερέως συγγενὴς ὢν οὗ ἀπέκοψεν πέτρος τὸ ὠτίον οὐκ ἐγώ σε εἶδον ἐν τῷ κήπῳ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ | 18:26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? |
| 18:27 Iterum ergo negavit Petrus: et statim gallus cantavit. | 18:27 πάλιν οὖν ἠρνήσατο ὁ πέτρος καὶ εὐθέως ἀλέκτωρ ἐφώνησεν | 18:27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew. |
| 18:28 Adducunt ergo Jesum a Caipha in prætorium. Erat autem mane: et ipsi non introierunt in prætorium, ut non contaminarentur, sed ut manducarent Pascha. | 18:28 ἄγουσιν οὖν τὸν ἰησοῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ καϊάφα εἰς τὸ πραιτώριον ἦν δὲ πρωίᾳ καὶ αὐτοὶ οὐκ εἰσῆλθον εἰς τὸ πραιτώριον ἵνα μὴ μιανθῶσιν ἀλλ᾽ ἵνα φάγωσιν τὸ πάσχα | 18:28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover. |
| 18:29 Exivit ergo Pilatus ad eos foras, et dixit: Quam accusationem affertis adversus hominem hunc? | 18:29 ἐξῆλθεν οὖν ὁ πιλᾶτος πρὸς αὐτοὺς καὶ εἶπεν τίνα κατηγορίαν φέρετε κατὰ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τούτου | 18:29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? |
| John 18:30 Responderunt, et dixerunt ei: Si non esset hic malefactor, non tibi tradidissemus eum. | John 18:30 ἀπεκρίθησαν καὶ εἶπον αὐτῷ εἰ μὴ ἦν οὗτος κακὸποιός, οὐκ ἄν σοι παρεδώκαμεν αὐτόν | John 18:30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee. |
| 18:31 Dixit ergo eis Pilatus: Accipite eum vos, et secundum legem vestram judicate eum. Dixerunt ergo ei Judæi: Nobis non licet interficere quemquam. | 18:31 εἶπεν οὖν αὐτοῖς ὁ πιλᾶτος λάβετε αὐτὸν ὑμεῖς καὶ κατὰ τὸν νόμον ὑμῶν κρίνατε αὐτόν εἶπον οὖν αὐτῷ οἱ ἰουδαῖοι ἡμῖν οὐκ ἔξεστιν ἀποκτεῖναι οὐδένα | 18:31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: |

| 18:33 Introivit ergo iterum in prætorium Pilatus: et vocavit Jesum, et dixit ei: Tu es rex Judæorum? | 18:33 εἰσῆλθεν οὖν εἰς τὸ πραιτώριον πάλιν ὁ πιλᾶτος καὶ ἐφώνησεν τὸν ἰησοῦν καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ σὺ εἶ ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν ἰουδαίων | 18:33Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? |
| 18:34 Respondit Jesus: A temetipso hoc dicis, an alii dixerunt tibi de me? | 18:34 ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ ὁ ἰησοῦς ἀφ᾽ ἑαυτοῦ σὺ τοῦτο λέγεις ἢ ἄλλοι σοι εἶπόν περὶ ἐμοῦ | 18:34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me? |
| 18:35 Respondit Pilatus: Numquid ego Judæus sum? gens tua et pontifices tradiderunt te mihi: quid fecisti? | 18:35 ἀπεκρίθη ὁ πιλᾶτος μήτι ἐγὼ ἰουδαῖός εἰμι τὸ ἔθνος τὸ σὸν καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς παρέδωκάν σε ἐμοί τί ἐποίησας | 18:35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done? |
| 18:36 Respondit Jesus: Regnum meum non est de hoc mundo. Si ex hoc mundo esset regnum meum, ministri mei utique decertarent ut non traderer Judæis: nunc autem regnum meum non est hinc. | 18:36 ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ἰησοῦς ἡ βασιλεία ἡ ἐμὴ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου τούτου εἰ ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου τούτου ἦν ἡ βασιλεία ἡ ἐμή οἱ ὑπηρέται ἄν οἱ ἐμοὶ ἠγωνίζοντο ἵνα μὴ παραδοθῶ τοῖς ἰουδαίοις νῦν δὲ ἡ βασιλεία ἡ ἐμὴ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐντεῦθεν | 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. |
| 18:37 Dixit itaque ei Pilatus: Ergo rex es tu? Respondit Jesus: Tu dicis quia rex sum ego. Ego in hoc natus sum, et ad hoc veni in mundum, ut testimonium perhibeam veritati: omnis qui est ex veritate, audit vocem meam. | 18:37 εἶπεν οὖν αὐτῷ ὁ πιλᾶτος οὐκοῦν βασιλεὺς εἶ σύ ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ἰησοῦς σὺ λέγεις ὅτι βασιλεύς εἰμι ἐγὼ ἐγὼ εἰς τοῦτο γεγέννημαι καὶ εἰς τοῦτο ἐλήλυθα εἰς τὸν κόσμον ἵνα μαρτυρήσω τῇ ἀληθείᾳ πᾶς ὁ ὢν ἐκ τῆς ἀληθείας ἀκούει μου τῆς φωνῆς | 18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. |
| 18:38 Dicit ei Pilatus: Quid est veritas? Et cum hoc dixisset, iterum exivit ad Judæos, et dicit eis: Ego nullam invenio in eo causam. | 18:38 λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ πιλᾶτος τί ἐστιν ἀλήθεια καὶ τοῦτο εἰπὼν πάλιν ἐξῆλθεν πρὸς τοὺς ἰουδαίους καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς ἐγὼ οὐδεμίαν αἰτίαν εὑρίσκω ἐν αὐτῷ | 18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. |
| 18:39 Est autem consuetudo vobis ut unum dimittam vobis in Pascha: vultis ergo dimittam vobis regem Judæorum? | 18:39 ἔστιν δὲ συνήθεια ὑμῖν ἵνα ἕνα ὑμῖν ἀπολύσω ἐν τῷ πάσχα βούλεσθε οὖν ὑμῖν ἀπολύσω τὸν βασιλέα τῶν ἰουδαίων | 18:39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? |
| John 18:40 Clamaverunt ergo rursum omnes, dicentes: Non hunc, sed Barabbam. Erat autem Barabbas latro. | John 18:40 ἐκραύγασαν οὖν πάλιν πάντες, λέγοντες μὴ τοῦτον ἀλλὰ τὸν βαραββᾶν ἦν δὲ ὁ βαραββᾶς λῃστής | John 18:40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber. |
