JOHN CHAPTER 13

Latin VulgateGreek Textus ReceptusEnglish King James
John 13:1 πρὸ δὲ τῆς ἑορτῆς τοῦ πάσχα εἰδὼς ὁ ἰησοῦς ὅτι ἐλήλυθεν αὐτοῦ ἡ ὥρα ἵνα μεταβῇ ἐκ τοῦ κόσμου τούτου πρὸς τὸν πατέρα ἀγαπήσας τοὺς ἰδίους τοὺς ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ εἰς τέλος ἠγάπησεν αὐτούς John 13:1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
13:2 Et cœna facta, cum diabolus jam misisset in cor ut traderet eum Judas Simonis Iscariotæ: 13:2 καὶ δείπνου γενομένου, τοῦ διαβόλου ἤδη βεβληκότος εἰς τὴν καρδίαν ἰούδα σίμωνος ἰσκαριώτου ἵνα αὐτὸν παραδῷ, 13:2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
13:3 sciens quia omnia dedit ei Pater in manus, et quia a Deo exivit, et ad Deum vadit: 13:3 εἰδὼς ὁ ἰησοῦς ὅτι πάντα δἔδωκεν αὐτῷ ὁ πατὴρ εἰς τὰς χεῖρας καὶ ὅτι ἀπὸ θεοῦ ἐξῆλθεν καὶ πρὸς τὸν θεὸν ὑπάγει 13:3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
13:4 surgit a cœna, et ponit vestimenta sua, et cum accepisset linteum, præcinxit se. 13:4 ἐγείρεται ἐκ τοῦ δείπνου καὶ τίθησιν τὰ ἱμάτια καὶ λαβὼν λέντιον διέζωσεν ἑαυτόν 13:4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
13:5 Deinde mittit aquam in pelvim, et cœpit lavare pedes discipulorum, et extergere linteo, quo erat præcinctus. 13:5 εἶτα βάλλει ὕδωρ εἰς τὸν νιπτῆρα καὶ ἤρξατο νίπτειν τοὺς πόδας τῶν μαθητῶν καὶ ἐκμάσσειν τῷ λεντίῳ ᾧ ἦν διεζωσμένος 13:5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
13:6 ἔρχεται οὖν πρὸς σίμωνα πέτρον καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ ἐκεῖνος, κύριε σύ μου νίπτεις τοὺς πόδας 13:6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
13:7 Respondit Jesus, et dixit ei: Quod ego facio, tu nescis modo: scies autem postea. 13:7 ἀπεκρίθη ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὅ ἐγὼ ποιῶ σὺ οὐκ οἶδας ἄρτι γνώσῃ δὲ μετὰ ταῦτα 13:7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
13:8 Dicit ei Petrus: Non lavabis mihi pedes in æternum. Respondit ei Jesus: Si non lavero te, non habebis partem mecum. 13:8 λέγει αὐτῷ πέτρος οὐ μὴ νίψῃς τοὺς πόδας μου εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ ὁ ἰησοῦς ἐὰν μὴ νίψω σε οὐκ ἔχεις μέρος μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ 13:8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
13:9 λέγει αὐτῷ σίμων πέτρος κύριε μὴ τοὺς πόδας μου μόνον ἀλλὰ καὶ τὰς χεῖρας καὶ τὴν κεφαλήν 13:9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
John 13:10 λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ ἰησοῦς ὁ λελουμένος οὐ χρείαν ἔχει ἢ τοὺς πόδας νίψασθαι ἀλλ᾽ ἔστιν καθαρὸς ὅλος καὶ ὑμεῖς καθαροί ἐστε ἀλλ᾽ οὐχὶ πάντες John 13:10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
13:11 ᾔδει γὰρ τὸν παραδιδόντα αὐτόν διὰ τοῦτο εἶπεν οὐχὶ πάντες καθαροί ἐστε 13:11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
13:12 Postquam ergo lavit pedes eorum, et accepit vestimenta sua, cum recubuisset iterum, dixit eis: Scitis quid fecerim vobis? 13:12 ὅτε οὖν ἔνιψεν τοὺς πόδας αὐτῶν καὶ ἔλαβεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ἀναπεσών πάλιν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς γινώσκετε τί πεποίηκα ὑμῖν 13:12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13:13 Vos vocatis me Magister et Domine, et bene dicitis: sum etenim. 13:13 ὑμεῖς φωνεῖτέ με ὁ διδάσκαλος καὶ ὁ κύριος καὶ καλῶς λέγετε εἰμὶ γάρ 13:13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
13:14 εἰ οὖν ἐγὼ ἔνιψα ὑμῶν τοὺς πόδας ὁ κύριος καὶ ὁ διδάσκαλος καὶ ὑμεῖς ὀφείλετε ἀλλήλων νίπτειν τοὺς πόδας 13:14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
13:15 ὑπόδειγμα γὰρ ἔδωκα ὑμῖν ἵνα καθὼς ἐγὼ ἐποίησα ὑμῖν καὶ ὑμεῖς ποιῆτε 13:15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
13:16 ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν οὐκ ἔστιν δοῦλος μείζων τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ οὐδὲ ἀπόστολος μείζων τοῦ πέμψαντος αὐτόν 13:16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
13:17 Si hæc scitis, beati eritis si feceritis ea. 13:17 εἰ ταῦτα οἴδατε μακάριοί ἐστε ἐὰν ποιῆτε αὐτά 13:17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
13:18 οὐ περὶ πάντων ὑμῶν λέγω ἐγὼ οἶδα οὕς ἐξελεξάμην ἀλλ᾽ ἵνα ἡ γραφὴ πληρωθῇ ὁ τρώγων μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ τὸν ἄρτον ἐπῆρεν ἐπ᾽ ἐμὲ τὴν πτέρναν αὐτοῦ 13:18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
13:19 ἀπ᾽ ἄρτι λέγω ὑμῖν πρὸ τοῦ γενέσθαι ἵνα ὅταν γένηται πιστεύσητε ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι 13:19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
John 13:20 Amen, amen dico vobis: qui accipit si quem misero, me accipit; qui autem me accipit, accipit eum qui me misit. John 13:20 ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὁ λαμβάνων ἐάν τινα πέμψω ἐμὲ λαμβάνει ὁ δὲ ἐμὲ λαμβάνων λαμβάνει τὸν πέμψαντά με John 13:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
13:21 Cum hæc dixisset Jesus, turbatus est spiritu: et protestatus est, et dixit: Amen, amen dico vobis, quia unus ex vobis tradet me. 13:21 ταῦτα εἰπὼν ὁ ἰησοῦς ἐταράχθη τῷ πνεύματι καὶ ἐμαρτύρησεν καὶ εἶπεν ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι εἷς ἐξ ὑμῶν παραδώσει με 13:21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
13:22 ἔβλεπον οὖν εἰς ἀλλήλους οἱ μαθηταὶ ἀπορούμενοι περὶ τίνος λέγει 13:22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
13:23 Erat ergo recumbens unus ex discipulis ejus in sinu Jesu, quem diligebat Jesus. 13:23 ἦν δέ ἀνακείμενος εἷς τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ κόλπῳ τοῦ ἰησοῦ ὃν ἠγάπα ὁ ἰησοῦς 13:23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
13:24 νεύει οὖν τούτῳ σίμων πέτρος πυθέσθαι τίς ἂν εἴη περὶ οὗ λέγει 13:24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
13:25 ἐπιπεσὼν δὲ ἐκεῖνος ἐπὶ τὸ στῆθος τοῦ ἰησοῦ λέγει αὐτῷ κύριε τίς ἐστιν 13:25 He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
13:26 ἀποκρίνεται ὁ ἰησοῦς ἐκεῖνός ἐστιν ᾧ ἐγὼ βάψας τὸ ψωμίον ἐπιδώσω καὶ ἐμβάψας τὸ ψωμίον δίδωσιν ἰούδᾳ σίμωνος ἰσκαριώτη 13:26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
13:27 Et post buccellam, introivit in eum Satanas. 13:27 καὶ μετὰ τὸ ψωμίον τότε εἰσῆλθεν εἰς ἐκεῖνον ὁ σατανᾶς λέγει οὖν αὐτῷ ὁ ἰησοῦς ὅ ποιεῖς ποίησον τάχιον 13:27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
13:28 Hoc autem nemo scivit discumbentium ad quid dixerit ei. 13:28 τοῦτο δὲ οὐδεὶς ἔγνω τῶν ἀνακειμένων πρὸς τί εἶπεν αὐτῷ 13:28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
13:29 τινὲς γὰρ ἐδόκουν ἐπεὶ τὸ γλωσσόκομον εἶχεν ὁ ἰούδας ὅτι λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ ἰησοῦς ἀγόρασον ὧν χρείαν ἔχομεν εἰς τὴν ἑορτήν ἢ τοῖς πτωχοῖς ἵνα τι δῷ 13:29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
John 13:30 Cum ergo accepisset ille buccellam, exivit continuo. Erat autem nox. John 13:30 λαβὼν οὖν τὸ ψωμίον ἐκεῖνος εὐθέως ἐξῆλθεν ἦν δὲ νύξ John 13:30 He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.
13:31 Cum ergo exisset, dixit Jesus: Nunc clarificatus est Filius hominis, et Deus clarificatus est in eo. 13:31 ὅτε ἐξῆλθεν λέγει ὁ ἰησοῦς νῦν ἐδοξάσθη ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου καὶ ὁ θεὸς ἐδοξάσθη ἐν αὐτῷ 13:31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
13:32 εἰ ὁ θεὸς ἐδοξάσθη ἐν αὐτῷ καὶ ὁ θεὸς δοξάσει αὐτὸν ἐν ἑαυτῷ, καὶ εὐθὺς δοξάσει αὐτόν 13:32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.
13:33 Filioli, adhuc modicum vobiscum sum. 13:33 τεκνία ἔτι μικρὸν μεθ᾽ ὑμῶν εἰμι ζητήσετέ με καὶ καθὼς εἶπον τοῖς ἰουδαίοις ὅτι ὅπου ὑπάγω ἐγὼ ὑμεῖς οὐ δύνασθε ἐλθεῖν καὶ ὑμῖν λέγω ἄρτι 13:33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
13:34 ἐντολὴν καινὴν δίδωμι ὑμῖν ἵνα ἀγαπᾶτε ἀλλήλους καθὼς ἠγάπησα ὑμᾶς ἵνα καὶ ὑμεῖς ἀγαπᾶτε ἀλλήλους 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
13:35 ἐν τούτῳ γνώσονται πάντες ὅτι ἐμοὶ μαθηταί ἐστε ἐὰν ἀγάπην ἔχητε ἐν ἀλλήλοις 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
13:36 Dicit ei Simon Petrus: Domine, quo vadis? Respondit Jesus: Quo ego vado non potes me modo sequi: sequeris autem postea. 13:36 λέγει αὐτῷ σίμων πέτρος κύριε ποῦ ὑπάγεις ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ ὁ ἰησοῦς ὅπου ὑπάγω οὐ δύνασαί μοι νῦν ἀκολουθῆσαι ὕστερον δὲ ἀκολουθήσεις μοι 13:36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
13:37 Dicit ei Petrus: Quare non possum te sequi modo? animam meam pro te ponam. 13:37 λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ πέτρος κύριε διατί οὐ δύναμαί σοι ἀκολουθῆσαι ἄρτι τὴν ψυχήν μου ὑπὲρ σοῦ θήσω 13:37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
13:38 Respondit ei Jesus: Animam tuam pro me pones? amen, amen dico tibi: non cantabit gallus, donec ter me neges. 13:38 ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ ὁ ἰησοῦς τὴν ψυχήν σου ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ θήσεις ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω σοι οὐ μὴ ἀλέκτωρ φωνήσει ἕως οὗ ἀπαρνήσῃ με τρίς 13:38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
