Introduction 2.2

This is a thorough bible study about the meaning of the Greek word ἄνθρωπος, 'anthropos' meaning 'man'. It includes every verse where the word 'anthropos' (Strong's 444) appears in the New Testament from John to Revelation. To obtain a true understanding of this word these scriptures need to be meditated on and notes made of their meaning in different contexts. This requires putting scriptures together where they seem to have a similar meaning, and then meditating even more. The truth will be revealed by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to guide us into all truth (John 16:13). Wherever this word anthropos appears in the Greek, the translation of it is highlighted with bold type and yellow. In Greek, with the exception of case endings, the suffixes and prepositions are not added to the basic word as in Hebrew, so these have not been been included in highlighted text. Every blessing be to those who seek the truth of God's word.

1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
1:9 That was the true Light, which lights every man who comes into the world.

2:25 And did not need that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.
3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
3:4 Nicodemus says to him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it is given him from heaven.
4:28 The woman then left her water pot, and went her way into the city, and says to the men,
4:29 Come, see a man, who told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

5:5 And a certain man was there, who had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
5:7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I do not have any man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steps down before me.
5:9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the Sabbath.
5:12 Then asked they him, What man is that who said to you, Take up your bed, and walk?

5:41 I do not receive honor from men.
6:10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was a lot of grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
6:14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is truly that prophet who should come into the world.

7:22 Moses therefore gave to you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath day.
7:23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath day, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are you angry at me, because I have made a man completely whole on the Sabbath day?
7:46 The officers answered, Never man spoke like this man.
7:51 Does our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he does?
8:17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

9:16 Therefore some of the Pharisees said, This man is not of God, because he does not keep the Sabbath day. Others said, How can a man who is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
9:24 Then they called again the man who was blind, and said to him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
9:30 The man answered and said to them, Why in this is a marvellous thing, that you do not know where he is from, and yet he has opened my eyes.
10:33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we do not stone you; but for blasphemy; and because that you, being a man, make yourself God.

11:50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation should not perish.
12:23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour has come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
12:34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abides for ever: and how do you say, The Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?

4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they acknowledged them, that they had been with Jesus.
4:14 And seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
4:16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? For that indeed a notable miracle has been done by them is manifest to all those who dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
4:17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us strictly threaten them, that they do not speak to any man in this name from now on.
4:22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing had been done.
5:4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own authority? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God.
5:28 Saying, Did we not strictly command you that you should not teach in this name? And, behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
5:35 And said to them, You men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do to these men.

12:22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.
14:11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.
14:15 And saying, Sirs, why do you these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach to you that you should turn from these vanities to the living God, who made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are in it:
15:17 That the rest of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, says the Lord, who does all these things.
15:26 Men who have given up their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
16:17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, who show to us the way of salvation.
16:20 And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
16:35 And when it was day, the magistrates sent the officers, saying, Let those men go.

17:26 And has made of one blood all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like gold, or silver, or stone, graven by are and man's device.

21:28 Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, who teaches all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and has polluted this holy place.
21:39 But Paul said, I am a man, a Jew of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I entreat you, allow me to speak to the people.
22:15 For you shall be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard.
22:25 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said to the centurion who stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, and uncondemned?
22:26 When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what you do: for this man is a Roman.
23:9 And there arose a great cry: and the scribes who were of the Pharisees' part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God.
24:16 And in this do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence towards God, and towards men.
25:16 To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he who is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.
25:22 Then Agrippa said to Festus, I would also hear the man myself. Tomorrow, said he, you shall hear him.
26:31 And when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man does nothing worthy of death or of bonds.
26:32 Then said Agrippa to Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed to Caesar.
28:4 And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet vengeance does not allow to live.

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
1:23 And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.
2:1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are that judges: for in what you judges another, you condemn yourself; for you who judges do the same things.
2:3 And do you think this, O man, that judges those who do such things, and do the same, that you shall escape the judgment of God?
2:9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
2:16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
2:29 But he is a Jew, who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
3:4 Let it not be: yes, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That you might be justified in your sayings, and might overcome when you are judged.
3:5 But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who takes vengeance? (I speak as a man)
3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the works of the law.
4:6 Even as David also describes the blessedness of the man, to whom God imputes righteousness without works,
5:12 Because of this, as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin; and so death passed into all men, by which all sinned:
5:15 But it is not as the offence, so also the free gift? For if by the offence of the one the many died, much more the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, has abounded to the many.
5:18 So then, as through one offence death passed into all men to condemnation; so also through one righteous act life passed into all men to justification of life.
5:19 For as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so through the obedience of the one the many shall be made righteous.
6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that from now on we should not serve sin.
7:1 Do you not know, brothers, (for I speak to those who know the law,) how that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?
7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
9:20 No but, O man, who are you who replies against God? Shall the thing formed say to him who formed it, Why have you made me thus?
10:5 For Moses describes the righteousness which is of the law, That the man who does those things shall live by them.
12:17 Repay to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
12:18 If it is possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men.
14:18 For he who in these things serves Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
14:20 For food do not destroy the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eats with offence.

1 Corinthians 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
2:9 But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those who love him.
2:11 For what man knows the things of a man, except the spirit of man which is in him? even so no one knows the things of God, except the Spirit of God.
2:14 But the soulish man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
3:3 For you are yet fleshly: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are you not fleshly, and walk as men?
3:21 Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours;
4:1 Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
4:9 For I think that God has set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men.
6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is outside the body; but he who commits fornication sins against his own body.
7:1 Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
7:7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man has his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
7:23 You are bought with a price; do not be the servants of men.
7:26 I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.
9:8 Do I say these things as a man? Or does not the law say the same also?
11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and do not have love, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
14:2 For he who speaks in an unknown tongue does not speak to men, but to God: for no man understands him; however in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
14:3 But he who prophesies speaks to men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
15:32 If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what does it advantage me, if the dead do not rise? let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we die.
15:39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a life-giving spirit.
15:47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

2 Corinthians 3:2 You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
4:2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
4:16 For which cause we do not faint; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
5:11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest to God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
8:21 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knows;) such a one caught up to the third heaven.
12:3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knows;)
12:4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

Galatians 1:1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, nor by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)
1:10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
1:11 But I certify you, brothers, that the gospel which was preached of me is not according to man.
1:12 For I neither received it of man, nor was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
2:6 But from those reputed to be something, (whatever they were, it makes no matter to me: God accepts no man's person:) for those of repute conferred nothing to me:
2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
3:12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man who does them shall live in them.
3:15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it is but a man's covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no man annuls, or adds to it.
5:3 For I testify again to every man who is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
6:1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in a fault, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering yourself, lest you also are tempted.
6:7 Do not be deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap.

Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; in order to make in himself of two one new man, so making peace;
3:5 Which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it is now revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
4:8 Therefore he says, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.
4:14 That we from now on be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive;
4:22 That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, who is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
4:24 And that you put on the new man, who after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
6:7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

Philippians 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient to death, even the death of the cross.
4:5 Let your moderation be known to all men. The Lord is near.

Colossians 1:28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
2:22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
3:9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds;
3:23 And whatever you do, do it from your soul, as to the Lord, and not to men;

1 Thessalonians 2:4 But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, who tries our hearts.
2:6 Nor did we seek glory of men, nor of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.
2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when you received the word of God which you heard of us, you received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually works also in you who believe.
2:15 Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they do not please God, and are contrary to all men:
4:8 Therefore, who despises, does not despise man, but God, who has also given to us his holy Spirit.

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you according to any way: for that day shall not come except the apostasy shall come first, and that man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition;
3:2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men do not have faith.

1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
4:10 For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of the faithful.
5:24 Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
6:5 Perverse disputing of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw yourself.
6:9 But those who will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
